Occasion: Sister’s Wedding
Type of Speech: Commemorative (Matron of Honor Speech)
Introduction:
Good evening, everyone! I’m so happy to be here this evening to celebrate my little
sister’s wedding! I’m Jane Doe, and it’s my privilege to give the Matron of Honor speech
tonight.
Obviously, I’ve known Sally all her life! I still remember the day she was born. It was an
awesome day for our entire family. I was so excited to get a little sister. As she become a
toddler and an adolescent, I sort of rethought that whole “glad to have a little sister” idea.
She wasn’t bad, just curious about everything. And since we are 8 years apart, she was
curious about my makeup and clothes. I’m so thankful my dad put a lock on my bedroom
door. Sorry, sis, but yes, I asked dad to put that lock on my door!
Body:
Tonight, I have three things I want to share about my little sister:
1. First, she’s actually pretty cool. She’s always been into fashion, so she never left the
house unless she looked her best.
2. Second, she has an old soul. She seems to have great insight into others, and she is
always available to help others. I really admire her for that. I think maybe this is why
she is studying to be a nurse –she wants to help others.
3. And, third, she absolutely loves and adores Tim, her new husband. They have a real
connection and respect for one another. After their second date, Sally told me she
thought he might be “the one.” As it turns out, it was true.
Conclusion:
As I wrap up, I just want to say how much I love you, Sally…and now, Tim! I think it’s
only fitting that I share a quote by Maya Angelou: “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps
hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.”
Raise your glass everyone as we toast the happy couple! I love how you love each other,
and I wish you all the best. Cheers!

Occasion: Retirement Party
Type of Speech: Retirement Farewell Speech
Introduction:
It is a great honor and a mix of emotions to address you today on this significant occasion
as we say goodbye to a colleague, a mentor, and a close friend who has devoted many
years to our company.
We are here today to commemorate an individual’s extraordinary life and work whose
impact will continue long after we part ways.
Body:
Tonight, I have three things I want to share about my colleague:
1. Bid farewell to one of our colleagues
2. How good of an employee he was.
3. We will honor him today for many lives he has influenced.
Conclusion:
We should, therefore, raise our glasses in recognition of his achievements. May his
retirement be imbued with the same ardor, commitment, and contentment he consistently
demonstrated in his daily contributions to our team.
Join me in extending a heartfelt welcome to Andrew as he takes the stage. We look
forward to hearing the wise words he has prepared to share today.

my notes on the outline and read the reminders below. REMINDERS for the CLASS: -Be sure
that the body is broken down into 3 main points. -The time limit is a strict 1-3 minutes. Remember that when speaking at an event, it’s important to welcome the guests who are
attending. If you don’t know everyone, be sure to state your name. Make sure you use an
appropriate quote in the conclusion. It needs to be inspirational.

How and What to Submit:
Submit a Word document. Do not Submit PDF.
Your submission should meet the following criteria:
Length: Follow the “Special Occasion Speech Full-Sentence Outline Guide see
attachment
Writing Mechanics: Submission is free from spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
Formatting: Use 12-point font, such as Times New Roman or Helvetica; double-spaced;
1″ margins all around; the text is aligned only on the left side of the page.
Organization: Follow the “Special Occasion Speech Full-Sentence Outline Guide
Everything comes together this week. You will create a full-sentence outline of your
special occasion speech. This means everything will be written out in complete
sentences with punctuation. Think in terms of how you will say something during your
speech.
NOTE: Since a special occasion speech relies on creativity, some sentences/thoughts
may be connected through the use of an ellipsis […].
