2. Once you have identified your research question(s), then you are able to focus on the topic

3. Once you have your research question(s) and topic, then research a theory (from the list provided) that will best assist in serving as a roadmap for developing your arguments (to back your solution to a problem that is being addressed).

4. You must have a topic related to health informatics policies and procedures. The theory is not your topic; it is your theoretical framework.

A theoretical framework is a foundational review of existing theories that serve as a roadmap for developing the arguments you will use in your own work. In other words, your theoretical framework justifies and contextualizes your research, and it’s a crucial first step for your research paper, thesis, or dissertation. A well-rounded theoretical framework sets you up for success in your research and writing process.

5. Once you have identified your research question(s) and theory, I recommend researching dissertations and articles on the topic and theory you selected. I recommend researching dissertations and articles related to the topic and related to the theory separately. This will provide perspective on how to write/format your research paper.

6. If you select training staff on a new EHR system, then learning and change theories may be a good choice. If you select looking at a current system and seeing if a new system or data quality is needed, then system theory may be a good fit. If you select to find ways for better communication, then Information theory may be a good fit.

Health Informatics is an applied field of study incorporating theories from information science; computer science; the science for a specific discipline, such as medicine, nursing, or pharmacy; and the wide range of sciences used in healthcare delivery. As a result, Health Informatics specialists draw on a wide range of theories to guide their practice.

Choose 1 of the following four (4) major theoretical approaches as the main topic of your final paper and relate it to a current topic (practices, policies, and/or regulations) in Healthcare Informatics. Note: for the selected theory, each bullet listed under that theory is required to be included in the final paper. Also, the selected theory and topic are to be used for weeks 3, 4, 5, and 7 assignments.

The above topics are only suggestions and are not limited to the topics listed.

Research Project: Annotated Bibliography Assignment Instructions

The template will provide the layout of the assignment. Once you have researched and selected your references, the following should be included in the Annotated Bibliography:

A brief statement regarding the author and his/her credentials as an authority.
A crisp statement regarding the relevance of this article for your topic.
A salient or meaningful quote from the article that you would likely cite if you were to write an essay on this topic.

(Do not include the above criterion prompts in your final document—it is provided here only for instructional purposes. Your paper will have the above title and start with the below section.)

The Research Project: Annotated Bibliography Template provides examples on how the assignment to look. Ensure that you take heed to how the references and the Research Project: Annotated Bibliography is structured.

Research Project: Outline Assignment Instructions

Instructions

For this assignment, you are to use the references from the Research Project: Annotated Bibliography Assignment. You are to use full sentences (one – two sentences). Please avoid copying and pasting everything that you are planning to include into the project paper in the outline.

The outline should be simple and readable to show each section of the paper and the topic to be covered. The following are things to consider with completing the outline:

What to consider in the Outline:

What is the topic?

How much space is estimated per section?

Also include the elements noted on the Research Project: Final Document Assignment Instructions.

Example of the Full Sentence Outline Structure:

Thesis Statement:

Question(s)/Issues Begin Addressed:

Outline:

Man-made pollution is the primary cause of global warming.
Greenhouse gas emissions are widely identified by the scientific community to be harmful (Smith, 2014).
The burning of coal and fossil fuels are the primary releasers of hazardous greenhouse gases.

Full sentence outlines are often accompanied with an APA reference list on a separate page. Quotes within the outline must also utilize in-text citations in current APA format.
