The peer-reviewed study I chose is an article that examines the favorable and unfavorable factors that contribute to the mental health of bipolar disorder patients and their possibility for flourishing. I have encountered, throughout my life and nursing education, several patients with bipolar disorder, so this topic is of great interest to me since my purpose is to help this type of population, and I am aware of how vital this topic is to psychiatric mental health professionals. It is crucial for a psychiatric nurse like the one I aspire to be to stay up to date on new evidence-based data. Expanding on the findings of this cross-sectional study, the significance of social support for adults with bipolar disorder becomes even more pronounced. The study establishes a positive correlation between social support and good mental health and identifies specific determinants that hold equal weight for both men and women in this demographic. The factors of reassurance of worth and social integration emerge as pivotal contributors to mental well-being, shedding light on the nuanced aspects of social support that have a profound impact on individuals with bipolar disorder. By delving into these determinants, the study not only broadens our understanding of the critical role that social support plays but also provides actionable insights for mental health interventions tailored to address the unique needs of individuals with bipolar disorder. Acknowledging and reiterating the significance of these components inside social support networks can function as a focused approach to improve the mental health results for individuals battling bipolar. Identify the database that you used to search for the article.

In my quest for academic resources, I discovered that APA PsycInfo, recognized as the largest repository of academic, peer-reviewed literature on mental health and behavioral sciences (Walden University, 2020), did not house the specific peer-reviewed article I sought. Instead, my search led me to Medline with Full Text, a database curated and regularly updated by the National Library of Medicine. This comprehensive database focuses on literature within the biological sciences, with a particular emphasis on biomedicine (Walden University, 2020). The transition to Medline with Full Text broadened my access to relevant journal papers, offering a wealth of information and insights within the specialized field of biomedicine. This experience served as a reminder of how crucial it is to search through a variety of academic databases in order to guarantee a thorough and comprehensive inspection of the scholarly literature in the search for more extensive and diverse research results.

Explain any difficulties you experienced while searching for this article.

One notable difficulty that I encountered while searching for peer-reviewed articles in the university library’s database, is the inconvenience caused by restricted access to full articles. In some instances, I found that the database initially provided limited access or did not open the full article until I signed in with my institution credentials. However, I understand that this login requirement may work as a security measure to protect access to proprietary academic content. But it can definitely be frustrating for students, particularly if we encounter this obstacle unexpectedly. Other than that, I did not find any other difficulty while looking for my desired topic. I typed “Bipolar Disorder “ after selecting Boolean/Phrase search mode, full text, and then I narrowed it down to peer-reviewed and chose a recent date from 2020 to date.

Would this database be useful to your colleagues? Explain why or why not. Would you recommend this database? Explain why or why not.

In sharing my experience with Medline, I am convinced that my colleagues would greatly benefit from incorporating this valuable database into their research toolkit. As a first-time user, I found the platform user-friendly and efficient in promptly delivering relevant results. Notably, MEDLINE’s esteemed position among the top 16 databases for nursing underscores its credibility and reliability as a go-to resource in the field. I would strongly recommend my colleagues to leverage this database, particularly for its comprehensive coverage of millions of publications encompassing a wide array of nursing topics, all of which undergo a rigorous peer review process. Given that in peer reviews, articles are examined by experts in the field when the editors forward them to several peer reviewers for appraisal (Walden University, 2019). my colleagues can trust that the information they access is thoroughly evaluated for accuracy and quality. This rigorous evaluation procedure ensures the material’s accuracy and reliability while mitigating prejudice per the principles of evidence-based practice. This provides them the freedom to make educated choices in their nursing practice.
