STUDENT 1: My name is (inserted name) and I am a Junior studying mechanical engineering. I was
born in Illinois but moved to NC when I was only three. I grew up in Cary, NC, only about 15-20
minutes from campus
I have 3 siblings including a twin sister who is also at NC State and two older siblings. I grew up
with many family pets, even having 4 dogs and 2 cats at one point.
I grew up playing many different sports and enjoying nature through biking. Now my hobbies
include lifting weights, reading, and hanging out with friends. I also enjoy going to State football
games and tailgating.
I chose mechanical engineering as my major because I love to solve complex problems and learn
how machines work. When I graduate, I plan to go into the manufacturing field or automotive field.
In the future, I want to travel as much as I can because I love to visit new places and experience new
cultures.

STUDENT 2: Hi Y’all! My name is (inserted name). I’m a junior majoing in Mechanical
Engineering, with minors in Outdoor Leadership and Theatre! My pronouns are she/her, and I’m
from Chapel Hill. My twin brother currently attends UNC. I chose Mechanical Engineering because
of how broad it is – you can really do almost anything with it, and my interest are all over the board.
Plus, I’m a big fan of hands on work and design.
My minors are simply to pursue passions of mine. I’m a big fan of the outdoors and am down for any
outdoor acitivity. I joined the minor to be more involved, but also because I realized with all the gym
classes I’d taken, I was halfway there. Theatre has always been a passion of mine, and again, with all
the classes I take and how involved I try to be with theatre, the minor was a no brainer.
Sitting still has never been a talent of mine, so I have many pursuits across campus. I’ve been an
officer of the Fencing Team for three years, current secretary for Parkour club and a 3 year team
member of Baja SAE. I’m heavily involved in theatre, from shop to backstage to acting, including
working off campus at Theatre in the Park once. I frequent the community classes of campus dance
groups, I rock climb often (hit me up if you need a belay partner or want to learn how!), am a huge
cyclist and am teaching myself to ollie on my skateboard.
I tinker and craft fairly often, including a lot of glasswork I do at the craft center. I play DnD and in
my rare free time, I read and work on my creative writing, or get to the airport to get some student
flight hours in. I enjoy baking & cooking, am an abosolute history & aviation nerd.

Student 3: Hello everyone, my name is (inserted name) and I am an Aerospace Engineering
senior graduating in May. I completed a minor in Spanish last year, and while I wouldn’t
necessarily consider myself fluent I can get along pretty well. Last summer I interned at
Northrop Grumman working on satellite simulation software, which was a lot of fun. I’m
currently debating whether I want to go into grad school or straight into industry. I guess to some
extent it depends on how good of an offer I can get in either direction, I’m definitely not willing
to pay for grad school out of pocket! Aerospace at NC State has a straight-to-phd program which
appeals to me, so I’m considering that as an option.
In my free time I enjoy cooking, tabletop games, and growing plants. Looking around my room
right now I count 10 of varying sizes, with more throughout the apartment. I enjoy rock
climbing, but unfortunately I don’t usually have time during the academic year. I like both top
rope and bouldering, but I’d say I prefer bouldering by a little bit. I have two cats named Anne
and Lilibet who are sisters but despite that are very rude to each other. Anne is named after the
pirate Anne Bonny because she enjoys climbing and riding on shoulders like a parrot, while
Lilibet is named after the late queen’s nickname because of her regal and hoity-toity attitude.
They are both very noisy.
I’m interested in this class because with climate change becoming an increasingly important
factor in our lives I feel environmental ethics and our interactions with the environment in
general will become something to consider in every facet of our lives. I look forwards to learning
more about the topic and interacting with you all.
