Analyze and evaluate how your thinking was challenged in this course related to leadership as an APN.

This course has completely overturned my understanding as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) on how to integrate scientific foundations into everyday clinical practice. Since the focus on evidence-based practice has made me reconsider how to use research findings in patient care, it is clear there must be a more careful assessment of new data and insistence that scientific methods employed are consistent (Wheeler et al., 2022). During this course, I have broadened the definition of leadership for myself. Recognizing that it is only through promoting continuous improvement in clinical outcomes on a systemic basis, and influencing corporate culture at the same time has restructured my conception of the APN’s role.

The course has also pushed me to strengthen my capability of translating research into clinical scholarship for effective practice improvements. This ability has not only increased my understanding of research results, but even more importantly it highlights the crucial factor in improving patient care which consists of effective communication and application. Healthcare policy has been a transformative focus of the course, as far as exploring policies and their impact on equitable healthcare is concerned. It has not only urged me to reflect seriously on the policies but also affirmed that APNs play a role as guardians of equitable medical practices (Kellstrom, 2020). This course has increased my understanding of how leadership is multifaceted and enabled me to be active in patient care and broader healthcare improvement.

Considering this new knowledge, examine how this learning prepares you to practice as a DNP-prepared APN leader.

This course has thoroughly equipped me mentally in my strides toward becoming an effective DNP-prepared APN leader ready to prosper in this area. This will also fit well in my studies by helping me appreciate the need for an evidence-based nursing profession through the application of a scientific foundation in daily life clinical practices. This competence assists me in improving my work in advanced clinical practice with a rich appreciation of recent study results and critical analysis of evidence-based practices for better patient treatment (Lamb et al., 2021). Leadership development in an organization and a system are equally important attributes of a DNP-prepared advanced practice nurse (APN) leader. It has reinforced my capability of operating within complicated medical environments leading to constant quality advancement in medical care, which then impacts the company’s culture. The DNP focuses on leadership in healthcare organizations. This is one area that I have taken advantage of since these skills are essential for creating positive influences at micro and macro levels towards shaping how health care will be delivered in the future.

Translating research into clinical scholarship is in line with the DNP vision for evidence-informed practices. It enables me to play a key role in advancing innovative practice enhancements by translating new research findings into actionable steps toward improved patient care outcomes. Another important consideration relating to DNP concerns advocacy and policy leadership explores the policies on health care and their implication to equitable health care (Lamb et al., 2021). Such information enables me to make informed decisions when reviewing policies, advocate for fair healthcare provision practices, as well as take an active role in policy development on social determinants of health issues. This provides me with the necessary competencies to effect positive changes in my professional role as a DNP-preparing APN leader.
