ESSAY QUESTIONS FOR UT AUSTIN (500-700 WORDS)
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE (ESSAY 1)
The statement of purpose will provide an opportunity to explain any extenuating circumstances that you feel could add value to your application. You may also want to explain unique aspects of your academic background or valued experiences you may have had that relate to your academic discipline. The statement of purpose is not meant to be a listing of accomplishments in high school or a record of your participation in school-related activities. Rather, this is your opportunity to address the admission committee directly and to let us know more about you as an individual, in a manner that your transcripts and the other application information cannot convey.
Basically, I want my main idea for my statement of purpose to revolve around my dream of being a pediatric occupational therapist. My first choice school for UT is the College of Liberal Arts and my first choice major for that is psychology. My second choice school for UT is the Moody College of Communications, and my major would be communication studies and corporate communication. PLEASE GO ONTO THE UT WEBSITE AND TALK ABOUT SPECIAL THINGS ABOUT EACH OF THE MAJORS AND SCHOOLS IN DETAIL, and then overall connect it to my dream career.
Something else that I would like you to talk about in-depth is the new job that I recently picked up which is a RBT (registered behavior technician). I just got my RBT Cerfitication with a website called Autism Partnership Foundation. I got this certification to make sure I am able to provide the most I possibly can and be as knowledgeable as I possibly can not just start working to make a buckl. I have got in contact with a BCBA after I got my certificate, and have started working with children with austim from ages 3-8 years old. My responsibility as an RBT working with young kids with autism are things like teaching them new skills, playwork, improving/correcting their behavior, communicating with them, telling them right from wrong etc; I either go to the childs home for a few hours each day for their therapy session and do playwork with them/spend time with them with a plan that was given to me by their parents/my ABA, or I go to schools all across Los Angeles and spend a few hours with the children over there!
Talk about how much i have fallen in love with taking care of kids especially those who deserve the most and deserve the best treatment they can possibly have. Talk about my first steps, why my majors of choice and the schools of choice at UT reflect what I want to do in my future. For the communications major, you can talk about how I have taken several communications courses throughout highschool, and how communication is a big part of being a therapist, especially an occupational therpist for children, also considering I am spending my time at my job all day communicating with kids with diabilities which is quite diificult.
RESEARCH THE SCHOOL: Some other things to make sure to talk about are the core values of UT Austin (PLEASE RESEARCH FOR ME AS MUCH AS YOU CAN) also talk about their community (RESEARCH)
Some classes I am intersted as a psych major at UT: human cognition, child psych, lifespan developement
Some classes I am interested in as a communications major at UT: Topics in Leadership and Communication, and intro to health communication.
Questions to consider when writing with the info I gave:
Where have you taken initiative in your education, and how will you continue to do so?
Where have you explored your earnest love of learning? Where have you pursued something for the sake of your own curiosity?
How and why have you supported your community?
I really want this to be good so please try to write this as best as you can realting to UT Austin Itself and NOT any other schools. Go into detail about this specific school, and my purpose of going there, what I can achieve AT UT AUSTIN ONLY.
