At the end of each unit, DB participation is assessed based on level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion. DBs allow learners to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB are accepted after the end of the unit. A female was ecstatic when hired as an oil rigger. However, after a week of working primarily with a male crew, her happiness began to deteriorate. Her male coworkers began to make unwelcome comments about her body. Specifically, a male coworker said, “Your body is like a perfect soda bottle shape, and I love your beautiful lips.” Another coworker said, “Your butt is better than any celebrity. If I get you alone one night, you will not regret it.” One morning, when she came to work, she saw a nude female picture pinned to one of the rigs, and her name was written at the bottom of the picture. She complained to the crew foreman, who then told her to talk to the site manager about it. The site manager said the following: “Let us ignore it for a while. It is just good fun. The men are testing you. You have got to fit in.”
