my home city. I decided that I want to transfer to USC because of my firm desire to grow, both
personally and academically. During this important stage of my educational journey, I have come

One compelling aspect of USC is the diverse and inclusive community that it offers. I was
raised in a culture where open-mindedness and difference were not welcomed. However, I love
that USC represents diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. My interaction with
USC students at a recent SZA concert stressed this diversity and left a lasting impression on me.
The students I met were very warm and friendly, and this affirmed my belief in the transformative
power of connecting with individuals from different walks of life.
At the same time, the robust academics offered at USC are in line with my aspirations and
career goals. Applying to the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences as a

commitment of USC to foster a culture of innovation and creativity is in line with my aspirations.
It provides me with a stimulating environment to excel and push boundaries in my academic

university community. I will do this through research projects, volunteer work, and taking part in

strengthening my communication skills, which are crucial in establishing rapport with young
patients and their families. Communication, both verbal and non-verbal, lies at the heart of
effective therapy, and my experiences as an RBT underscore the significance of this aspect in
facilitating meaningful connections and fostering trust.
What sets UT Austin apart is its academic excellence and also its core values and vibrant

Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal
growth and a new understanding of yourself or others. approx. (350 – 650 words).
Since I was a child, I have been drawn to pursuing a career in healthcare, owing to my
innate behavior of helping others out because I believe in the idea that every being on earth
deserves the best quality of life. While dreaming of joining the healthcare fraternity, I had not
decided on what I wanted to pursue until this time when I was actively involved in taking care of
my nephew and niece two years ago. This experience transformed my life because it gave me a
better understanding of myself and a sense of purpose I was hoping to find to decide on the right
career path to venture in. Reflecting on my past experiences is a guarantee that transferring from
Santa Monica College to Loyola Marymount University will be the stepping stone to finally
building a successful career as a pediatric occupational therapist.
Living with my brother and my sister-in-law, who both work as veterinarians, propelled a
compassionate side of me that, despite having existed, I didn’t know was as deep. Since both my
brother and sister-in-law were caught up with work, I was tasked with taking care of Abe, my
3-year-old nephew, and my 2-year-old niece, Faye, an experience that was both fulfilling and
enjoyable at the same time. While babysitting my nephew and niece, I developed a passion for
kids because I was involved in educating them about subtle things like morals, kindness, and
empathy in a way they could understand best. My passion for working with and taking care of
kids also stemmed from the fact that I spent a significant amount of time with my nephew and
niece, watching them take their first steps, changing their diapers, engaging them in activities
like painting, and teaching them meaningful life skills.
The time I spent taking care of my nephew and niece helped me develop several strengths
that I believe will help me succeed in many courses and my future career as a pediatric
occupational therapist. I have strong communication skills, as I can easily interact with children
and use age-appropriate language in a way that makes it easy for the kids to express themselves.
I am also highly empathetic in that taking care of my niece and nephew enhanced my emotional
intelligence, making it easier to listen to and understand kids and their complex needs. I have
also gained meaningful insights from the Registered Behavior Technician certificate that I
obtained to help propel me toward working with children on a professional level. My knowledge
when training to be an RBT helped me gain relevant knowledge and skills necessary to work
with kids by helping them communicate, express their needs, make friends, and achieve their
potential. Being an RBT has also equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of Applied
Behavior Analysis, an approach that plays a significant role in occupational therapy by helping
teach simple and complex skills, promote behavioral skills, and enhance social interaction.
Transferring from Santa Monica College to Loyola Marymount University will offer me a
reasonable chance to advance my knowledge and hone my skills, ensuring a successful career as
a pediatric occupational therapist. LMU is renewed for a comprehensive curriculum that
combines classroom knowledge and real-world applications, offering its students a wholesome
learning experience. The school also has a dedicated team of experienced professors and
researchers with whom I will engage to acquire real-time knowledge of occupational therapy.
Having engaged first-hand in child caregiving and worked as a therapist performing ABA
services for children, along with my RBT knowledge, I will flourish at LMU while studying my
passion. Pursuing a degree as a Lion will guarantee I will acquire relevant expertise that will
propel me to a successful career as a pediatric occupational therapist.
Question 2: 1. Share with us why you are interested in LMU and/or why you chose your
specific area of study or major.
Pre Question Notes:
LMU has lots of clubs that connect to the field of psychology as well as many clubs that interest
me.
I try my best to preserve our environment so the beach cleanups with the Surfruder Foundation
(Surfrider Foundation Club) is a club I would definitely take part in
I also appreciate that there is a Psychology Club which is an on-campus and largely student-run
organization, as well as Psi Chi which is the international psychology honor society
Something else I love is that students get to be apart of the Human Subject Pool, which allows
them to participate in research conducted through the Psychology Department and acquire direct
experience in social science research. (keep in mind I got this info straight from LMU website
and to rephrase it)
Some courses I would be intersted in taking at LMU is cognitive neuroscience, Psychology of
gender, and I am also super intersted in Psychology of Marriage.
Some other things I personally love about LMU is the classes! For me personally, I need more
personal attention when it comes to school therefore classes with a small number of students is
great for me and will help me learn to my best abaility!
I also love that the school is in playa vista which is super close to the beach!
Something else I love about LMU is their Diversity and inclusion. LMU is committed to creating
a diverse and inclusive community, and its student body represents a wide range of backgrounds
and experiences. This is something super important to me because I have always grown up in a
small bubble with the same types of people around me and I am wanting a change! I want to
meet others from different backgrounds while still living somewhat near my home!
Los Angeles has my heart, I was born and raised here which is why I value LMU so much and it
will become like home to me. Los Angeles is also a great place for internships, job opporutnities
and many cultural experiences.
