The Personal History Statement is to get to know you as an individual and as a potential graduate student. You should speak to any aspect of your lived experiences and/or attributes which motivate you to pursue a graduate degree and will enrich the Graduate School of Arts and Science. Please note that the Personal History Statement is not meant to be a general autobiography.
Answering this question, please be creative on the enrich part. You need to write abouttwo pages but no more than two pages. You can use about 1 page to describe one of my story. So I was diagnosed with major depression before fall 2023 starts. Yet, it is one of my most challenging semester, taking hard courses, also taking an extra course. The hardest is “intro to econometrics”. You can describe the feeling of despair and hopelessness. I could not find a way to effectively learn this course. The feeling of experiencing rock Bottom to the top. After my hard work and fighting with my illness. I finally got success on the final exam getting an A.
Another small task is to write about an academic research experience. 150 words.

You need to write two essays, the first one 800-1000 words
topic: the statement of purpose + Personal Statement, why are you interested in this major(public policy, you can look it up on the website), what’s the motivation? It can include a course, an observation from the society, or a personal experience. Be fancy on words. Also, describe the academic plans and expected contribution. Also describe the. Future career goals, both long term and short term.
The second one is 500 words max.
Answering these two questions. 1)Describe challenge(s) or barriers that you have faced in your pursuit of higher education. What motivated you to persist, and how did you overcome them? What is the evidence of your persistence, progress or success?
2)· How do you see yourself contributing to diversity in your profession after you earn your advanced degree at UCLA?
