The wisdom literature in the Bible is not exclusive. Many other cultures — some much older than the Hebrews of the Bible — wrote wisdom literature that contains sayings and advice similar to and consistent with the teachings of the Bible. For instance, as Bruce mentioned in his article, some of the sayings of Amenemope parallel Proverbs 22:17-23:12.What do you think Bruce meant when he said, with regard to the similarities of some proverbs with Amenemope, “there are more ways of accounting for these parallels than by supposing that Solomon or Amenemope borrowed the one from the other”? What are those other ways of accounting for the parallels? How do the lecture and Bruce’s article treat the similarities between Hebrew wisdom and other ancient wisdom literature?
