To begin the action research process, a researcher selects a focus and clarifies the vision and targets of the research. A close review of current scholarly sources about a research topic helps to clarify vision and targets of the research and builds support for a research investigation.

In Topic 1 you selected two areas of research for your action research study. From these two areas, select one area to further develop as an action research project throughout this course. Based on the area of research selected, identify a specific topic or focus to apply the action research process.

For this assignment, develop an action research proposal, create an annotated bibliography of current research (within the last five years), and develop research questions.

Write a 50-100 word research proposal explaining the vision and target of the action research, including your theory of action.

Examine five recent, peer-reviewed research studies related to the topic selected and write a 100-150 word annotation for each study.

Each annotation must include the following:

Assumption of the limits of the research
Type of research (qualitative or quantitative).
Methodology – participants, instrumentation, design, and procedure
Results (1-2 sentence summary)
Gaps in the research

Based on the research reviewed, develop 3-5 research questions that reflect gaps in the research. These research questions will serve as the foundation for collecting data in the next topic.

The two areas that I have selected are technology and psychology. For technology the research
topic is; Integrating Technology in the Early Childhood Classroom. For Psychology, the research
topic is; Social-Emotional Learning in Elementary Education.
Research Topic 1: Integrating Technology in the Early Childhood Classroom
Rationale
My preferred topic is technology integration in the early childhood classroom because it is often
overlooked despite being one of the most important educational capabilities. Technological
advancement triggers the necessity of educating teachers on how to efficiently integrate
technology into their approach to improve students’ performance. By looking into this theme, I
intend to find creative solutions to integrate technology into early childhood education,
considering its effect on young pupils’ development.
Research Approach
A mixed-method approach would best explore technology integration in early childhood
education. This allows the collection of quantitative information, such as academic performance
or test scores, and qualitative data, such as observations and interviews with educators and
students. By blending these techniques, I can see a complete picture of how these educational
technologies and teaching strategies work in early childhood classrooms.
Contribution to Student Success and Educators
Research on this topic can substantially boost the success of kids’ studies by using advanced
technology in the baby classroom as best practice. Through technology, teachers could develop

lecture materials that interact with students with various learning capabilities and styles.
Moreover, such research equips educators with information and skills to implement technology
appropriately to promote young people’s development and successful integration in the digital
world.
Research Topic 2: Social-Emotional Learning in Elementary Education
Rationale
I opted to focus on the concept of social-emotional learning (SEL) in primary school education
because this is one of the essential factors responsible for the growth of students’ overall wellbeing and academic achievement. SEL involves self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and
social communication, which are the keys to building good relationships, effective emotion
management, and wise decisions. On the SEL basis, I will discover universal methods for
emotionally shaping students and establishing friendly relationships in educational institutions.
Research Approach
A qualitative research approach would be a suitable option for studying social-emotional
learning as an element of a curriculum in elementary education. Qualitative approaches, for
instance, case studies and interviews, provide a more profound understanding of the students’
experiences, teachers’ practices, and the eventual effect of SEL interventions.
Contribution to Student Success and Educators
The research could bring great insight by explaining the value of social-emotional learning
(SEL) in elementary school and stressing effective ways to implement SEL strategies. Through
implementing a SEL program, instructors can develop in their students an environment that is

supportive and inclusive, where they know they are being cared for, respected for what they are,
and encouraged to be the best they can be. In addition, the study can give instructions and
appropriate resources that teachers can use to facilitate SEL with pupils, improving their
emotional and academic performance.
Summary of Action Research Process
The action research process consists of four stages: clarifying vision and targets, articulating
theory, collecting data and implementing action, and reflecting on data and planning informed
action. At the first level of activity, the researchers determine the aims and objectives of their
studies and formulate a vision of how they expect the research to benefit society (Johnson,
2020). A second section will be dedicated to formulating the theoretical framework, which
comprises essential concepts, principles, and hypotheses that the research is based on.
Then, researchers collect data through different methods: screenings, surveys, and interviews,
and the information received inform their unification and interventions. At that time, they
execute these actions practically in natural environments and collect more data to assess those
interventions (Chang, 2020). At last, the researchers look back on the data collected, assess the
performance of their actions, and formulate actions based on the findings of the research process
for subsequent iterations.
The theory of action that drives action research is based on the assumption that the improvement
in professional practice and the quality of the students’ outcomes is possible through purposeful
and systematic inquiry that is applied during reflective practice (Sagor & Williams, 2017).
Through participation in the research procedures and being constantly introspective, educators

can spot weak areas, undertake evidence-based approaches to improvement, and ultimately
harmonize comprehensive and efficient learning and achievement.
