This assignment will help you think like one of your favourite companies, and will also encourage participation and the sharing of opinions from your peers.

Part 1 – Find an advertisement targeted to you. (8 marks total)

This can be a video or print advertisement that attracts your attention for whichever reason.
You cannot choose the same advertisement as another student.
If your advertisement is in another language, please make sure you include the English translation so that I may grade you fairly.
You will be graded on the quality of your responses, including how you demonstrate and apply your knowledge of course theory to this real-life situation.
You may not use the same advertisement as any other assignment in this course.

Post the advertisement/link and answer the following questions (1 mark each):

Describe the advertisement.
What is the main message?
What is the marketing objective?
What is the marketing communications objective?
What are the demographic, geographic and psychographic clues that this is targeted to you?
How are they positioning their brand in the customer’s mind (you)! For example, expensive or cheap? Professional or for beginners? Stylish or casual? etc. Explain why for each, giving examples from the advertisement.
What is the appeal(s) used in the commercial?
Do you think this commercial is effective? Explain what or why not. Is there anything you would change?

Part 2 – Reply by commenting on two other students’ commercials. (2 marks total)

Respond to two other students by adding your own bullet point on why you agree or disagree that their commercial is effective or not.
Remember that even if you disagree, to always be kind and respectful in your communications. This is good practice for working in a professional marketing business environment.

Options for this Assignment

You may respond by:

Writing out your response in a discussion board post.
Using a combination of images (such as photos and illustrations) and writing in a discussion board post.
With an audio and/or video recording in a discussion board post.

TIPS:

If you are submitting by writing, write your answers in a word document, then paste them into BB. This way you can check your spelling and grammar.
If you are adding an image from your computer, you will need to click the paperclip icon.
If you are submitting audio and/or recording, write out what you are going to say first and read it. This will make it easier to prevent mistakes and you will sound more credible and professional.
