One learning goal of this course is to be able to use reliable/credible sources. In an age of disinformation mixed in with good information, it is important to learn how to measure the credibility of sources. For this assignment, you will evaluate two sources. Your report can find all, some, or none of the sources credible. The important part is doing the work to complete the analysis well.

Minimum Requirements: Two (2) sources that are on the topic of your Proposal Argument must be analyzed using the template. One source must be accessed from our library. The other source must be accessed from the open web.

Format Requirements: The report is not an essay and will instead be formatted as given in the template. You must use the template linked here: Source Evaluation Template.docx

Content Structure: Each source will be presented on its own. Each analysis will be split into two sections: Citation and Analysis. The Citation section will present the citation as it would appear on an MLA Works Cited page. The Analysis section will be broken into answers to each part of the analysis: Authority, Accuracy, Bias/Purpose, Timeliness, Relevance, and Overall Evaluation.

Submission Guidelines:

You must submit print copies of all the sources on the due date in class. If the source is long, submit at least three pages of the source. The report must be submitted electronically as well as on paper.

Introduction
The use of social media has significant impacts on mental health. It can promote
connection, improve a sense of belonging, or even increase one’s self-esteem. Social media use
can however induce stress, and pressure and introduce the element of comparison which is
detrimental to one’s identity. There are approximately 4.8 billion social media users worldwide.
They represent 59.9% of the total global population (Beyari, 2023). These social media platforms
have in multiple ways become the primary source of data and information. Currently, the world
is undergoing many shifts and developments both on national and global scales. The recent
Israel-Palestine Conflict for example has led to widespread panic, especially with the distribution
of graphic images and videos. I would like to understand how social media is currently affecting
the mental health of people, especially young college-aged students.
Section B
Working Research Question: How can the detrimental mental health impacts of increased social
media-use be reduced in light of the recent global developments?
Secondary Research Questions:
What are the factors influencing increased social media use among college-aged students?
What are the consequences of increased social media use among college-aged students?
What are the factors influencing these detrimental impacts of social media?
What solutions can be put in place to protect the mental health and wellness of these students?

The following sources will be used to generate the information needed for the research.
The National Institute of Mental Health- The National Institute of Mental Health is
committed to providing authoritative information on mental health disorders and complications.
The mission of this organization is to transform and promote an understanding of mental health
and the available treatment options. Through both basic and clinical research, the organization
provides information needed for the prevention, recovery, and cure of these disorders. The
organization publishes different types of information including journal articles which will be
very beneficial for my research.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention- The CDC is a national public health agency
operating in the United States. As the nation’s health protection agency, the CDC is committed
to saving and protecting the lives of its citizens. To actualize their purpose, they conduct critical
science and provide health information that contributes to the safety and security of the
community. In light of the recent developments, I believe that the CDC has conducted the
necessary research and generated information regarding the issue at hand. The CDC can also
provide the foundational research needed to provide validity and credibility to my research
question.
Research Gate- The information needed for the study will also be generated from the
Research Gate. Research Gate is a European Commercial social networking site where
researchers and scientists share their articles, ask questions, and find collaborations. The website
integrates thousands of articles from different accredited researchers. Some of the published
research surrounding the issue can prove beneficial for my study. This source is also
advantageous in that most of the articles provided are freely accessible.
Web of Science- web of science will also be used as an alternative for
information/knowledge generation. This is one of the largest bibliographic databases that
provides articles and information free of charge. The best part about this website is that the
researchers are vetted to ensure the validity and credibility of their research.
