(A) How do you define abundance (the kind of abundance that best contributes to happiness
and quality of life)? What is it that makes a community prosperous in your eyes? What
makes a community worth living in?
(B) Cullen, D., Castleden, H., & Wien, F. (2021) The Historical Roots of Social Assistance: An
Inadequate Response to the Colonial Destruction of Mi’kmaw Livelihood in Nova Scotia.
After reading about the cultivation of dependence in Mi’kmaw communities in Nova
Scotia, are you aware of any similar history in your own community? What parallels
exist between the history of Mi’kmaw communities and your own? What are some key
differences that you may be aware of (if any)? How might this history have impacted
the social cohesion of Indigenous communities that we spoke about in Week 2?
Part 3 A and B

than the report. Can you find a more recent copy of the report? Have things changed? What do
other people say about this issue? What do you think about the issue?
(B) Two readings below: provide 4 key points, 3 quotes, 3 key terms, 1 key thing I learned for each
article.

wellness
(b) Developing an Inn Framework for Health Research
Part 4
What might John Borrows say would be a “good society” or “good societies” according to his
narration of Anishinaabe law inaakonigewin and ethics? Describe what might the relationships look
like between nature, land, Indigenous people, and non-Indigenous people. Please provide an
example to illustrate. (Hint: This is a hard question. Borrows’ text is a dense but insightful one. Give
it a try and don’t be afraid to get it wrong. We all get it wrong sometimes during our lives.)
