Identify one example of a funding source for an agency.Government funding can be used to support agency’s that are helping people coming home from incarceration. Non-profit grant monies are another funding sources that can be from a government program or a foundation. Every state has some form of grant that is for reentry support programs.Explain how this funding source could affect the services an agency provides for its clients. It provides:HousingEducational and employment servicesMental health servicesSubstance abuse treatment servicesFamily support servicesReferenceNetting, F. Joette Carpenter Gen. Practice III Main Post Identify one example of a funding source for an agency: Government and state grants are a funding source for agencies. I work for an agency that works with the homeless and we get grants and state funding to help the agency run. We work with youth and adults within the surrounding areas and have a place for runaways and then a transitional living place for teens to stay for up to 21 months (about 2 years). We do outreach services where we meet the homeless where they are and provide food bags, socks, coats, bus passes, and other things that they may need along with filling out paperwork for them to be considered for housing. Explain how this funding source could affect the services an agency provides for its clients: Without getting these funding sources, an agency would not be able to provide all the services if at all, and then the clients that count on us for the food bags, or tennis shoes, socks, or coats. Or the other services that we provide with my agency. The clients would lose out. Reference: Netting, F. E., Kettner, P. M., McMurtry, S. L., & Thomas, M. L. (2017). Explain the difference between statistical significance and meaningfulness by using a social work exampleStatistical significance shows the relationship between two or more variables are caused by something other than chance; can be attributed to a specific cause. Meaningfulness determines if the results are important even if they aren’t statistically significant (Salkind et al., 2020c). An example would be taking a sample size of 100 children and test their mathematics skills- divide the sample in half; half of them attend private school and the other attend public school. The average math score on the children that attend private school are 81.9 and the average math score on the children that attend public school are 82.3. The difference in scores is statistically significant (0.4), however, attending either school system would not create an educational setback for the children. This study relates to social work practice when working with children in the school system to evaluate how they are cognitively progressing and grasping their education skills. Explain how an understanding of statistical significance will enhance your social work practiceUnderstanding statistical significance can enhance my social work practice. When a program is developed, data can be collected to see what kind of impact the program is having on the clients. By gathering data and analyzing the data, one can see the statistical difference when comparing two variables. Once those variables are assessed, one can see where the program is falling short or how great impact of the program has on their clients.Reference:Salkind, N. J., Frey, B. B. (2020c). Main:Explain the difference between statistical significance and meaningfulness by using a social work example.Statistical significance is an important aspect of the research process. Meaningfulness determines if the results of a study are important even if not statistically significant (Salkind & Frey, 2020). Statistical significance is whether the result of an experiment is due to a purposeful variable or a random factor (Salkind & Frey, 2020). Statistical significance is the degree a researcher is willing to reject a null hypothesis when it’s true (Salkind & Frey, 2020). Null is a statement about equality (Salkind & Frey, 2020). An example of this would be if researchers were seeing the difference in drug use between unhoused mothers versus unhoused fathers. 34% of unhoused mothers used drugs while 32% of fathers did. The difference in scores is statistically significant but it is not necessarily meaningful because it doesn’t prove unhoused mothers use more drugs.Explain how an understanding of statistical significance will enhance your social work practice.Understanding statistical significance is essential to social work practice. This is because it allows you to be a competent social worker through the ability to evaluate evidence (National Association of Social Work Code of Ethics, 2023). If I were to develop a program for unhoused youth, I could conduct or interpret previous research on successful practices. If the previous data conducted by previous researchers isn’t significantly significant, I know it may not help give me information about a program. If it is significant then I can feel competent in my decisions made for the program.ReferenceSalkind, N. J., Frey, B. B. (2020c). Statistics for people who (think they) hate statistics (7th ed.).
