Reply to at least two classmates’ responses. The responses are based on the CAPSTONE Discussion Forum#2 question that you previously helped me with. I ONLY need the replies to CLASSMATE’S QUESTIONS. These are the Responses that need replies: Response #1- Matthew For this capstone project I am investigating the problem of mental illness among transgender and non gender conforming people. My research so far has shown that TGNC people have a higher prevalence of mental illness when compared to their counterparts in society. I intend to explore the reasons behind these troubling findings, seek out literature that describes effective approaches to treating and helping this group as well as how TGNC people are affected by their mental illnesses – in other words: how does it manifest in their lives? Some of the initial questions that have arisen come from a need to define terms. What does it mean to be transgender or gender non conforming? What does it mean to be mentally ill? Research articles mention wellness but what does that actually mean and how is it operationalized? I’ve had quite a bit of success with Google Scholar and searching some combination of “transgender” and “mental illness”. Crucially I have found articles that discuss other articles and have been able to build my list of studies by reading through their references pages. I highly recommend this strategy! If you can’t read the full article on Google Scholar be sure to utilize the NJ State Library where you can view the document in its entirety. Using too many search terms have severely limited the results I’ve received and using LGBT as a search term isn’t showing me the specific articles I need to see in order – they’ve been too broad and not focused on my specific topic. I am open to suggestions about any other search strategies and look forward to hearing them all! Response #2-Miranda My topic is climate change effects on sea level rise in the US Western Gulf of Mexico. This is my thesis statement: Global mean sea level rise stems primarily from the warming of Earth’s temperatures, impacting all bodies of water universally. However, the U.S. Western Gulf of Mexico is experiencing an exceptionally rapid rate of regional sea level rise compared to global averages, threatening coastal communities with severe implications over the next few decades. I will research and answer the questions of “Why is sea level rise occurring so rapidly in the Western Gulf of Mexico?”, “Why does this rate of sea level rise pose a problem?”, and “What can be done to slow down sea level rise in the Western Gulf?” I use search terms from my topic like “sea level rise” and “us gulf of mexico” with booleans to help refine my searches. One question that has arisen for me is – how far back I will go in describing the process of sea level rise? By this I mean, since climate change is a result of a domino effect of environmental processes, where will I mark the beginning of the processes that lead to sea level rise? So far, I have been successful with my research on environmental organizations’ websites, like the NOAA and NASA. They are providing excellent background of the mechanisms of global mean sea level rise. I have used Google Scholar and ProQuest to find scholarly articles about the effects of sea level rise in the US Western Gulf. In opposition, I have come across several non-credible sites while browsing the results of my search queries on Google. Using basic search engines like this produces results that are mostly not helpful, as opposed to scholarly databases and websites of environmental organizations involved in the reporting of sea level rise. FYI This is the question that my classmates are responding to: First, restate your topic and remind your classmates of your thesis or main question and main points. Then, explain the research strategy you are using to develop your thesis or to resolve the problem statement. Describe some key words and additional questions that have emerged from your search. Finally, discuss the search strategies you have found to elicit the best results and where you are finding the most beneficial material. Be sure to include the strategies that have been least successful and why.
