Description
This Assignment is based on the previous CAPSTONE assignments that you’ve helped me with *See attachments*
This written assignment contains two parts: an outline and a narrative component.
Outline
Now that you have begun to do research in earnest for your project, begin thinking about how you will organize your material. An outline is critical to helping you begin to organize your thoughts and the development of your paper. Consequently, it is imperative you devote your attention to this outline so that you know with some degree of confidence where you are going with your research and your writing. You can, of course, modify your approach after the outline has been submitted based on further research or considerations. However, at this juncture, it is important to have the necessary groundwork laid out for how you anticipate moving the capstone project forward.
Develop a full-sentence outline for your entire capstone project. Use at least three levels (I, A, 1). You may use the following outline template as an example or draft your own. This will help you to plan out what you intend to research and write about for each of the major points of your capstone project. As you create this outline, you will begin to see a flow of ideas and how they relate to your problem statement, research question, or thesis statement. Using your increasing knowledge, define the scope of your research question more completely. Incorporate important concepts or theories that relate to your topic, and explain how the sources you are finding relate to these concepts.
Use alphanumeric or any other format that Word offers to create your outline (provided you go at least to the third level) and write in complete sentences (not phrases and not paragraphs). The use of full sentences will help your mentor better understand what you have in mind, since phrases can be ambiguous or lack sufficient information or clarity.

Your outline should conclude with 5 to 7 sources in APA or MLA format with entries alphabetized. These sources should be academic in nature and indicative of a source that would be reliable and recognized, though it does not need to necessarily be peer-reviewed. This information will be useful for your mentor to understand how you are proceeding with your research and provide helpful feedback.
Narrative
In your narrative, define the scope of your research question, determine the key concepts, and relate your sources directly to the research question or key concepts.
With your research question in mind, explain the scope of your project. The scope includes the specific goals of your project as well as the tasks that need to be completed in order to reach those goals related to your research question. After completely defining your project’s scope, defend the appropriateness of this scope for your project and why it is neither too broad nor too narrow.
Determine the key concepts you must research, study, and analyze to move your project forward. Provide preliminary definitions of these key concepts and explain how they relate to your research question.
Indicate the types of information sources (i.e. databases, journals, articles) that you have selected so far and will continue to seek. For each information source type, explain how it relates directly to your research question or the key concepts you have identified.
The narrative is intended to help the reader see how you have approached finding the required information to the resolution of your problem statement, research question, or continued development of your hypothesis or thesis statement. In an effort to expand your breadth of understanding of your topic, it is expected you will continue to actively engage in research throughout the duration of the course. [MO 2.1, MO 2.2, MO 2.3]

Search Strategies
The problem of the availability of health resources in low-income communities is a
significant issue in the United States, influenced by various socio-economic factors. This study
aims to delve into the causes of this problem and its impact on well-being and propose solutions.
The research approach involves an examination of existing literature, drawing insights from
studies such as Amin and Goswami’s (2019) research on women’s health in rural areas of Assam
and Kariisa et al.’s (2022) investigation into drug overdose deaths and sociodemographic factors.
I have identified keywords for this research, including challenges, cultural perceptions,
and community-based mental healthcare. These terms will guide the literature search, facilitating
an exploration of the issue. Moreover, the primary questions addressed in this paper revolve
around understanding the root causes of access to health services, examining the consequences
faced by individuals residing in economically disadvantaged regions due to insufficient support
systems, and proposing potential solutions for enhancing accessibility. As I progress through the
research journey, additional inquiries will arise concerning biases that may contribute to
exacerbating this problem and exploring the role played by community-driven interventions in
addressing disparities in mental healthcare.
To achieve outcomes for this study, I plan to utilize academic databases, renowned
journals, and authoritative government publications. However, it is challenging to find locationspecific information as there are variations in mental health disparities among different
communities. The search for resources has yielded results through academic databases and
journals offering comprehensive analyses and empirical evidence. Government reports contribute
valuable statistical data. The least successful have been general internet searches such as
Wikipedia, as the information lacks academic rigor and may not be reliable. The research aims to
2
contribute to advancing mental/behavioral health counseling by shedding light on the
complexities of access disparities and promoting a more equitable mental health support system.

Access Disparities to Mental Health Resources in Low-Income Communities
Introduction
In low-income communities across the United States, access disparities to mental health
resources present significant challenges. These disparities are entrenched in various socioeconomic factors, such as shortages of mental health professionals, financial barriers, limited
infrastructure, and cultural stigmas (Amin & Goswami, 2019). They form a complex web that
impedes the availability and accessibility of essential mental health services. The intersection of
economic hardships and mental health exacerbates the situation, where individuals in these
communities often find themselves navigating a landscape marked by scarcity and inadequacy.
This paper aims to delve into the challenges surrounding access to mental health resources in
these communities.
Background and Rationale
The reported disparity in mental health care accessibility between low-income and
higher-income regions is the backdrop for this study. Although there is a strong correlation
between economically challenged locations and poor mental wellness results, low-income groups
do not have equal access to essential resources (Kariisa et al., 2022). The rationale for choosing
this topic lies in the urgent need to understand why this disparity exists and to identify potential
solutions. As someone committed to a career in Mental/Behavioral Health counselling,
addressing this issue aligns with the professional goals of fostering equitable mental health care.
Personal Interest
My interest in this issue stems from the first-hand knowledge I have obtained working in
the mental/behavioral health field for the past 20 years. Observing the difficulties that people in
3
low-income neighborhoods encounter inspires me to add to the conversation about how to
improve mental wellness results for these marginalized groups.
Relevance to Professional Life
Exploring the access gaps to mental health resources in low-income communities holds
profound relevance to my professional life. It directly aligns with the pursuit of a career in
Mental/Behavioral Health counseling, providing an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the
field by addressing a prevalent issue affecting vulnerable populations.
Key Words
Keywords may encompass mental health, low-income communities, access disparities,
mental health resources, socioeconomic factors, and mental health outcomes.
Purpose of the Paper
The paper aims to examine the current issue of low-income populations’ restricted use of
mental wellness resources. The goal is to comprehend the underlying causes, consequences, and
possible remedies for this problem. Policymakers, anybody interested in advancing mental
wellness equity, and professionals in the field may be among the target demographic. My voice
is that of a knowledgeable activist, working to highlight differences and promote constructive
change.
Key Points and Main Questions
1. How did the problem of limited access to mental health resources in low-income
communities come about?
2. What are the effects of inadequate mental health services on individuals in economically
disadvantaged areas?
4
3. What best should be done to improve access to mental health resources in low-income
communities?
Preliminary Problem Statement
A notable discrepancy in getting mental illness care exists between low-income and
higher-income populations. This paper aims to investigate the causes of this issue, how it affects
mental health outcomes, and offer workable ideas for building a fairer mental health support
system.
Summary
This paper will examine the difficulties associated with low-income populations’
availability of resources for mental wellness. The main goals are comprehending the issue and its
implications and developing workable remedies. By focusing on these areas, the study hopes to
advance the mental/behavioral health counseling profession and promote a more readily
available system of mental wellness care for everyone.
