Relevant Social Policy and Cultural Humility Paper & Presentation: Due November 12
Students are required to write a minimum of three-page paper outlining the social policies impacting the
practicum agency and the agency’s use of cultural humility in practice. The main focus of this paper is
critical thinking, as students should critically examine social policies, agency policies, and their agency’s
diversity and use of cultural humility in practice. APA formatting is required, including proper citing of
sources. Paper must be uploaded via D2L. Paper must be uploaded as a Word document to Tk20.
The paper should include:
Social policy:
•
Describe two social policies related to delivery of services at the agency. These policies
must be in the form of state/federal/local legislation and/or case law.
o
How do these impact the work at the agency? The clients?
o
How do these policies impact your role as a social worker?
•
Outline a new social policy that you would advocate for to better serve the population at
the practicum agency
o
Why do you believe this policy would be beneficial for your agency/clients?
o
How would it impact the social work profession?
Cultural Humility:
•
Select an agency policy or initiative which demonstrates the agency’s commitment to
cultural humility and diversity.
o
Explain the agency’s policy/initiative.
o
Discuss the impact of this policy/initiative on agency culture and staff.
o
Discuss the impact of this policy/initiative on the population served

Students should apply critical thinking skills when evaluating the impact
of the policy in practice.

Discuss and evaluate the cultural awareness of the staff at the agency. The student should
critically analyze the diversity and inclusion at the practicum agency. Specifically evaluate the
ethnic composition of the staff in regards to the diversity of the client population.
