Variables of Interest: Identify the dependent and independent variables that are relevantto your research question. Remember, the DV is the outcome that you are trying to explain or explore (poverty, educational attainment) and your IVs are what you think effect your DV (race, parent’s education, income, etc.). Even if you are conducting a qualitative study, you are still measuring variables. Be sure to justify your variables by explaining the logic behind your choices and how you think they relate. Population and Sampling Procedures: What population do you wish to generalize to, and what sample will you draw to collect data that will speak to that population? What specific techniques will you use to draw that sample? Do you have a sampling frame, and how did/will you gain access to it?
