Kenza Dosso Disscusion COLLAPSE Top of Form 1. I think global trade has its benefits like economic growth and access to goods, however I don’t think its 100% true. Global trade can amplify income inequality within countries because it might benefit certain industries and individuals while leaving others behind. This leads to economic disparities that can negatively impact many people. Also, due to the increased production, transportation, and consumption of goods, global trade can lead to environmental degradation. Air and water quality, natural resources, and environmental sustainability in general will all be negatively impacted. Overall, I think there should be a balance between economic growth and development while also addressing issues like inequality and environmental sustainability. 2. One example of global trade lessening the quality of life is garment factories in Bangladesh facing criticism for unsafe working conditions and low wages, leading to negative impacts on the quality of life for workers. (Yuan et al.) In developing countries, companies sometimes take advantage of lower labor standards and wages to cut costs. This leads to extremely poor working conditions, inhumane hours and low wages. 3. Not everyone benefits equally from global trade because the benefits of global trade are often unevenly distributed. While some individuals or businesses may have significant gains from increased trade, others might not benefit to the same extent and/or be negatively impacted. For example, if a country that specializes in agricultural products decide to open its market to global trade by reducing tariffs on imported agricultural goods, the framers in that country who might not have the resources or infrastructure to compete with large agricultural businesses will struggle.
