For example, there are mRNA vaccine from Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech, protein subunit vaccines from Novavax, and viral vector vaccines from Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen. They each vary in their efficacy, mechanism of action, administration guidelines and side effects. NVX-CoV2373 vaccine, manufactured by Novavax is a protein subunit vaccine which uses the Covid-19 spike protein that is found on the surface of the Covid-19 virus. Once introduced into the body the immune system recognizes the protein spike antigens and produces an immune response. The immune system creates antibodies against the antigens, and memory B and T cells that respond to an actual Covid-19 viral infection in the future. . This type of vaccine offers a robust resilience towards infections of variants of Covid-19. For instance, in the United Kingdom trials the efficacy in SARs-COV-2 infections was 89.7%. Among the variants of B.1.1.7 it had an efficacy of 86.3% and the non-B.1.17 variants showed an efficacy of 96.4%.
