Description
1. Go to chat.openai.com and sign up for a free ChatGPT account (if you do not already have one). Once you are there, ask ChatGPT to write you an academic paper taking your side in a subject of current debate; for example, should books be banned, should the government be involved in health care decisions, should drag shows be banned, etc. (5 minutes of TV news should be enough to give you some topics!) Make sure to ask ChatGPT to provide you with citations for its work (it may require an additional step after it first generates the essay). Copy and paste what ChatGPT produces into a Word document (.docx).2. Using your research skills, fact-check the information ChatGPT has provided. Highlight three (3) pieces of information (or underline them) and then add a sentence in bold stating whether or not this information is correct, and the source you used to verify the information (provide a citation). Next, track down the resources ChatGPT cited in its writing. Then, find three (3) resources that also support your argument/opinion (these may be the same sources you used to fact-check the information). The goal of this assignment is twofold; to familiarize you with ChatGPT, as it is the subject of much controversy in education; and to practice your skills in analyzing information. Bonus (5 points possible):Now that you have researched your conspiracy theory, take a scroll through your social media – Facebook, Reddit, and the others I’m too old to know about – and tell me if you’ve noticed any unusual ads or links showing up that tie back into your chosen conspiracy theory. If there are any, describe what you’ve observed; if there aren’t any, tell me that as well. The length of this assignment will vary depending on ChatGPT; try to get a couple pages out of it (you can suggest that it add additional paragraphs, etc.). Plan on 2-3 pages without the citations. Again, single-spaced, make sure you include the citations for your three (3) sources.
