PICO Research Question, Search Strategy & Introduction Purpose: Students will develop a research question addressing an identified gap related to advanced practice nursing. Goal: To develop a relevant, answerable question related to health, provide an introduction and rationale, and search and obtain evidence to address the question. Length: 8-10 pages, including references and appendices Procedure: Students will work in pairs to develop a research question addressing an identified gap related to advanced practice nursing. 1. Use PICO specifically to help frame the question for the study. Read Chapters 5 and 19 in the Grove, Gray and Sutherland (2021) textbook. The question will be an advanced nursing practice question containing the following PICO elements. See page 557 in the textbook. Remember that. PICO = Patient or problem (P), Intervention (I), Comparison (C), Outcome (O) 2. You need to identify specific inclusion/exclusion criteria for the search based on the PICO question, including the use of Boolean operators. 3. To obtain the best level of evidence, use appropriate and reputable databases. Some databases lend themselves to a particular systematic review approach. Follow APA 7th edition guidelines for manuscript structure, crediting, referencing sources, etc.
