Implementing bundles has been an effective strategy for reducing several hospital-acquired conditions. The SSKIN bundle was developed about a decade ago to define and package best practices together to help minimize variation in care (Bollineni, 2019). The SSKIN bundle is an evidence-based set of interventions to prevent pressure injuries. It has been used in many different clinical settings. The proposed practice change project will implement the SSKIN bundle in a medical intensive care unit.

Literature reflects that nurses’ knowledge of pressure injury prevention and adherence to prevention practices is poor (Bollineni, 2019). Evidence-based bundles have proven to impact the application of pressure injury prevention strategies at the bedside (Lovegrove et al., 2022; Wang et al., 2023; Yilmazer & Tuzer, 2022). SSKIN is an acronym used to highlight key nursing interventions to prevent the development of a pressure injury. The acronym bundles together and highlights the interventions of support surface, skin inspection, keep moving, incontinence, and nutrition (Bollineni, 2019). The bundle applies to the unique characteristics of ICU patients (Santy-Tomlinson & Limbert, 2020).
