Description

Engaging Families In this week’s Chapter 4 readings, we learned, “Working together, families and early education programs provide critical support for young children’s language development. During the first three years of life, the focus should be on communication that includes language, having fun with language, and laying the foundation for future language and literacy development through developmentally appropriate and culturally and linguistically inclusive experiences rather than on the acquisition of discrete skills. Infant care teachers can build on children’s language experiences in the home and, at the same time, share with families what is being done in group care to enhance language learning.Reflective Prompt: In 150 words or more, reflect and share how might regular observation of children’s language development in different contexts (e.g., during quiet activities, outdoors, during mealtimes) and with different social partners (e.g., familiar and unfamiliar adults and peers) help you understand children’s language and foster your communication with their families?
