I would try to determine the cause by first looking at the people that have gotten sick after taking OrgChem. Then, I’d relate that to the population at risk, students, and use the 5W’s of epidemiology to find the cause/risk factors. First looking at the who, I would notice that it’s mainly students and not teachers, specifically students in their years to take OrgChem. Secondly, I’d look at the where and notice they’re all from UC Irvine. I notice that this happens when the quarter gets to the later stages where midterms and finals occur. There seems to be no risk transmission but I notice that many of the students have headaches and fatigue from most likely staying up all night to learn for their class. This narrows the options down, and I notice that many students are taking OrgChem in common. I would then observe other OrgChem students and realize that the cause of this sickness is OrgChem itself and that the course OrgChem is a risk factor as it seems that the students taking the class are at a higher risk of contracting the illness.
