Imagine you have been hired as a consultant to work with an organization that designs and manufactures highly engineered components used in low-orbiting geospatial satellites that will provide instant communications between all areas of our planet. Since its prototype production and provision of its first shipment of components, production at the company has slowed, quality control checks have revealed a failure rate of 25% (which is 20% higher than normal), and productivity among production team employees has decreased. The company is very concerned because it cannot afford to lose its contract with the satellite provider.
Management has requested that you identify the business process problem(s) involved in the quality control decreases, as well as the cause of decreased productivity and a sense of employee team malaise.
They have asked you to develop a proposal for business process improvement and employee motivation to help the organization return to their initial quality production and employee engagement levels.
You begin by meeting with employee teams involved in the decision-making for the production process. You identify a sense of defeat and depression among its members, especially after learning about the increase in component failure rates.
You also review the type of manufacturing processes used by the company in its production of the components.
Prepare a 1,050- to 1,400-word consulting proposal for business process improvement.
