Description
I attached a PPT below for the concepts covered in course. I think you can select the topic by referring to it.
Thanks very much for your help:)
Format
• Approximately 5 pages, typed, double-spaced, 12-point font, 0.5 to 1 inch margins
• Reference section should be in APA-format
• Portable Document Format (PDF), Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX), or Rich Text Format (RTF)
• No other formatting requirements!
Topic
Your paper should address how a perceptual concept/topic phenomenon discussed in lecture relates to and helps explain something of interest to you in the “real world”.
I present an example at the end of each Topic throughout the term, e.g.: Note: Do NOT use one of my examples! Come up with your own topic.
• How apparent motion is used to construct the Scanimation books
• How color perception helps explains the selection of nonintuitive paint colors in fine art paintings
• How 3D movie technology takes advantage of binocular disparity
• How neural representations of objects and scenes are being used to try to read peoples’ dreams
• How an understanding of the cochlea has guided the creation of cochlear implants
• How the mental and neural basis of synesthesia helps us understand links between color and sound
Sensation and perception are relevant to almost every human endeavour from art to science to medicine to engineering to sports to business.
Content
Your paper should include the following:
• A description of the “real world” topic of interest.
• A description of the perceptual concept/topic/phenomenon of relevance.
• A discussion of how the perceptual concept/topic/phenomenon explains/informs/relates to the “real world” topic of interest. This should be the main part of the paper!
• A reference section listing research you have cited, including at least three peer-reviewed journal articles.
Your paper should:
• Be well-written and free of errors in spelling, grammar, and usage
• Be well organized (e.g. intro then main points then conclusion, or some other clear organization)
• Make appropriate use of references to peer-reviewed journal articles
• Use articles that are relevant to your topic, and accurately represent their findings
• Integrate information to make a coherent argument; do not just list a bunch of disconnected facts
• Use the perceptual concept/topic/phenomenon to provide insight into the “real world” topic of interest
