Research Progress Report
BAS 491
1. Which aspects of your project are complete?
2. Which aspects of your project are in-progress?
3. Are you behind on any tasks? If so, which ones?
4. What are your upcoming tasks and deadlines?
5. If you are behind on any tasks, how do you plan to catch up? Do you need additional
resources or assistance?
6. Are you ahead of schedule on any tasks? If so, do you plan to make adjustments to your
timeline to start another task sooner?
7. Overall, how do you feel you research is going so far?
You already have your proposal completed from BAS 490. In order to transform your proposal into your
final manuscript, you will need to rework the basic foundation of the paper by changing from future
tense to past tense, rewording the methods section to match what you actually did for your project
(versus what you are proposing to do), adding all missing sections (a traditional Academic paper will
include an Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion; a Technical Paper which will include
rationale, methodology, and implications). Please refer to your APA Manual to determine what should be
included in each section (or you can reach out to me for assistance). You will complete your proposed
research study from BAS 490 during this semester. This means that whatever study you proposed in BAS
490 and were approved to implement in BAS 491 must be carried out by you. That includes data
collection, analysis of results, and reporting of findings in your final paper. *I strongly encourage you to
start this process early in the semester so you have a complete first draft to submit to your peer review
partner so they can provide you with the best feedback.
Final Paper/Project: Your final paper is the culmination of your work in BAS 490. The body of your paper
will include a literature review, in which you display your critical thinking skills to analyze research
quality. You will share your own hypothesis and methods, again thinking critically about the strengths
and weaknesses of your own research. You will share your results and interpret them for your reader.
Think critically about your own work and explore any bias or shortcomings your research might have. You
will demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of your research and explain how your research is relevant
to your field and the broader intellectual community (i.e., why your research matters outside of this
course). Your paper must be written professionally and demonstrate strong written communication skills
(clear, concise, proper grammar and tone, etc.). You will likely include indices (charts, diagrams, etc.)
plus cover page, abstract, and references. APA 7 format must be used for this submission. How long
should your paper be? Long enough to effectively do all of the above. This truly varies from subject- tosubject and student-to-student, but you can generally expect the body of your final paper to be between
3000-5000 words (excluding the abstract, indices, references, etc.)
