Familiarize yourself with the workings and competitive landscape of Twitter (now “X”)
based on Internet research. Then answer the following questions:
1. (a) Perform a Porter’s 5 Forces analysis on Twitter/X (see your notes from prior
classes for guidance, if necessary). (b) Use the results to answer the following
question: Does the firm need to worry about customer lock-in? Why or why not?
2. (a) What major challenges (discussed in today’s class) does Twitter/X face to locking-
in customers? (b) How does Twitter/X perform on the VEIF model (from today’s
class) relative to its major competitors?
3. (a) Perform a VRIO analysis on Twitter/X (see your notes from prior classes for
guidance, if necessary). (b) Use the results from that analysis and your answers to the
above questions to answer the following question: How, if at all, should Twitter/X
change its strategy in the future to better foster lock-in? Be as detailed as possible.
