Description
The proposal is designed to help you think about how to approach your final paper/project, and get some initial research done on the artifact of your choosing. The proposal, thus, gives both you and I a sense of how this final project might progress. I will be able to give you any suggestions before you begin to work on the final paper/project for this class.
Note: You can choose to expand any of your Analyze That Pop Text! papers for the final paper.
Task
This proposal is worth 25 points. You will introduce both the pop culture “text” and the theoretical paradigm that you will use to analyze this “text.” In this sense, “text” can mean anything found in popular culture (e.g. music video, movie, tv show, video game, etc.).
The proposal will consist of 3-4 pages that should have the following 4 sections:
Pop Culture “Text” (2-3 sources)
Describe the “text”
Justify the analysis of this “text,” in other words, why do we need to a read/listen to an analysis of this “text”
Explain why you are wanting to focus on this “text”
Tip: You can do a simple google search for that pop culture text and read the IMDB, any online source talking about it, or even wikipedia (just make sure you do not cite wikipedia but rather you cite the source that is being cited on that page!)
Theoretical Paradigm (2-3 scholarly sources)
What is your working argument for this paper?
What theories are guiding your analysis?
How do these theories help answer your argument?
Tip: Find the theory that was presented in the textbook and/or class discussion and then search for that theory at the library. You can also ask a librarian, or sign up for office hours.
