Assessment Three Brief | Facilitation (Group) and Report (Individual)
This assessment requires you to critically analyse a case study, undertake a facilitation as a group, and
write an individual reflective report on group processes
A case study allows you to apply your theoretical knowledge to a real organisational issue.
You will be provided with a case study for this assessment. As a group, you are required to break down and study
the parts of the case using organisational behaviour theory and concepts. When reading the case:






Read and examine thoroughly, make sure you understand the situation and the issues presented
Take notes, highlight key words, themes and problems
Identify the key problems, think about why they exist, how do they impact the individual? The
organisation? Who is responsible for the problem?
Think about possible solutions or changes needed
Select the best solution and develop recommendations
Decide how you will present the case for the facilitation
When developing the Facilitation:






Think about how you will set the scene and provide background information. You could do this in
reference to the organisational behaviour theme you will be investigating to avoid repetition (as each
group has the same case study)
Think about how you will identify and communicate the main parts of the case study you have chosen
to focus on, and how you will apply the organisational theme to the case
Outline the organisational behaviour theories, models and concepts you will be using for the analysis
What is working in the case? What is not working?
Outline the proposed solution or changes needed – what are your recommendations?
Choose the best way to present your approach for the class facilitation. How will you design the
facilitation so that it is engaging and interesting?
When writing the reflective Report, think about:






Your individual contribution to the group
The contribution of your group members
How you will apply organisational behaviour theory, models and concepts to critically analyse your
experiences
How you will use the reflective activity to enhance your contribution to groups in the future
Your perception of your own and others’ performance
Team dynamics, types of communication that worked (or didn’t), leadership styles, how power and
influence was used, how decisions were made, was there conflict and how it was resolved (or not)…

The Facilitation task involves critically analysing a case study using organisational behaviour theory,
models and concepts. It involves deconstructing what you read in a case and using your knowledge
and understanding of organisational behaviour to evaluate, form an opinion and make
recommendations
The Report is a reflective piece relating to the group process.
