Everybody has their philosophy on how they should eat. For this discussion, write two (2) paragraphs. First, write about how you think (your belief system) on how we should be eating for optimal health. This isn’t how you personally might actually be eating all the time, but rather how you think all of us as humans should be eating for optimal health. Meat, no meat, occasional sweets, no carbs, yes carbs, organic, vegetarian, eggs ok but not meat, no GMOs, etc. In other words, write about the most ideal way you think we all should be eating.

USE TWO (2) SOURCES FOR THE ABOVE SECTION SUPPORTING WHY YOU THINK WE SHOULD BE EATING THAT WAY. Cite them at the end of the entire Discussion Post. Discussion posts without citations receive deductions.

Then, in your second paragraph, write about how you actually eat. Be honest. Do you eat carbs? Drink sodas? Vegan? Don’t think about what you eat at all? Overthink it? Do you eat well half the time and half the time not? 80% great habits, but 20% not? etc. How are you really eating now compared to what you described above. Be detail oriented, descriptive, and in-depth. Posts that are too brief or lack depth receive deductions.

So, one solid paragraph on how you SHOULD eat and one detailed paragraph on REALITY.

Writing should be collegiate level, in-depth, and descriptive.

2

Write three (3) paragraphs about the film, Fed Up. First, summarize what the film is about IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Describe it thoroughly and use examples from the film, but no opinion in this section. Second, write a paragraph about something you LEARNED in the film that you did not know before viewing it. Be descriptive of what it was and where in the film it occurred and then explain what you learned from that moment in the film. Third, write about YOUR OPINION on sugar and what your thoughts are on how much is consumed by Americans. What do you think?

3

Discuss your thoughts on vitamins, minerals, and supplements. Do you think people should take vitamins? Why or why not? If so, which ones? Why those? How about other supplements like fish oils, turmeric, protein powders, CoQ10, beet powder, garlic tablets, etc. anything?

Then, discuss your thoughts on water consumption. Do you think we should consume tap, bottled, spring, filtered, carbonated, electrolyte, alkaline, etc? What is your opinion about WHAT kind of water we should be consuming? Is the cost worth it for bottled or should be save our money and drink tap? Do you think we should use a recyclable water bottle or are you ok with plastic water bottles? If we are using a reusable water bottle, do you recommend filling it with tap or bottled water? Why? Write about all your thoughts on water in our diets.

Posts should be collegiate level writing.

4

In this discussion post, write two paragraphs. First, research and then write about what Type 2 Diabetes is. How does it work in our bodies? How do we get diabetes? And, how do we avoid it? Be very detailed in this paragraph and cite all work.

Then, in your second paragraph, write about your own experiences with Type 2 Diabetes. Only share what you are comfortable with of course. Change the names if need be, etc. Do you or does somebody in your family have Type 2 Diabetes? Did you think of them while viewing Fed Up? Would they benefit by watching Fed Up? What are your thoughts on their diabetes? How would you advise them to improve their condition? Would they listen?

For this assignment, you will complete a paper on a topic of your choosing. Select a topic in the field of Nutrition and conduct your research on that subject. You can use your textbook for ideas or come up with your own. The research essay will be an interpretation and critique of a topic of your choice in the nutrition field. Examples are Dangers of Sugar, Soda Consumption in America, Fast Food, Intermittent Fasting, Low Carb Diets, Caloric Deficit for Weight Loss, High Protein Diets, Organic Foods, GMO Foods, Meal Prepping, Types of Vegetarianism, Nitrates and Nitrites, Spending Too Much on Eating Out, Exotic Foods, etc. As long as the topic involves food and nutrition, you are fine. The paper will be in 7th edition APA (American Psychological Association) format and have a minimum of four resources. The paper is to be submitted as a pdf file. Papers not in pdf receive point deductions. Submit your paper to Canvas by the due date/due time. Papers are put through software (Turn It In) to check for plagiarism. Late papers receive a zero score. Do not use the textbook as a resource for this assignment. Pull in outside resources instead. This is a research paper, so first-person should not be used nor should opinions be expressed. The paper is describing the research found on the topic in a third person objective format (do not use “I”). Papers are expected to be well organized and at a collegiate level of writing. Use 12 pt. font and Times New Roman only.

Be sure to not only list the resources on the Reference page, but also incorporate the research into the text of the paper and cite appropriately.

This assignment is a large portion of the grade in this course. Students should put their best foot forward in completing the assignment.
