Description
This assignment builds on Unit 1 learning activities; however, other units will assist you in integrating the material. The paper will address the following:Describe the cognitive processes you plan to use to inform the phases of diagnostic reasoning (e.g., hypothetic-deductive model, pattern recognition, a dual process diagnostic reasoning model, etc.).Identify potential thinking errors that may compromise expert diagnostic reasoning, and discuss strategies that you plan to use to avoid them.Describe how you will use evidence and practice to support your diagnostic reasoning processes. The paper will be a maximum of 2000 words, excluding the title page and references. The paper must adhere to APA 7th edition guidelines for structure (margins, font and type size, table size, organization of elements, etc.), spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and appropriate citation of sources in the body of the paper and the reference list. Practical tips to help as you work on your paper:
1. Lay out your paper in three sections: introduction, body, and conclusion.
2. The introduction indicates your topic, why it is important (a bit of background), and
how you will organize your paper. The introduction should also include a thesis
statement (i.e. the purpose of your paper).
3. In the body of the paper:
a. Choose one to two cognitive processes that resonate with you, and briefly
describe them. Explain why and how these processes relate to you personally
and to NP practice in general. Demonstrate the application of a diagnostic
reasoning process through examples and use forward-based critical thinking
on your current knowledge of the NP role (e.g., what you learned in the
program so far, observed from NP is practice, etc.).
b. Discuss two thinking errors that relate to you the most or that you may
have experienced personally or witnessed in your practice. Briefly explain what
the error is and why it stands out to you. How might these thinking errors
affect your quality of NP practice, how might they influence patient care and
interaction, what might the consequences be for the patient or the healthcare
system, and lastly how do you plan to avoid making these errors?
4. The conclusion of your paper does not add anything new to your information, it
should reaffirm what has been already said.
a. Restate the purpose of the paper and the information presented (very briefly).
Transition to an appropriate closing statement to end the paper.
