PART A
Nurses use critical thinking, reasoning, decision making and clinical
judgment daily while providing patient care. Think about a time you had
to make a clinical judgment about the care of a patient.
1.What went into your decision? What did you need to know, do, and consider
2.How did you determine what to do
3.What was the outcome
4.If you had to do it all over again, what would you do
differently
PART B-300 words
“Nursing process is a systematic problem-solving process that guides all nursing activities. It is
the type of thinking and doing nurses use in their practice” (Treas, Wilkinson, Barnett & Smith,
2018).
“Critical thinking is a combination of reasoned thinking, an openness to alternatives, an ability
to reflect, and a desire to seek truth” (Treas, Wilkinson, Barnett & Smith, 2018).
Utilize these two definitions to reflect on past experiences and new information that you have
learned. Apply it to an everyday non-medical occurrence such as a simple car accident and
patient with pain that you might be caring for in a hospital setting.
How would the approaches to these two situations be different? How would they be the same?
