The mind is a series of processes that all work together. One or more of these processes can become compromised due to factors such as age or neurological conditions, but there are intervention strategies that can mitigate these declines and promote a greater quality of life. Cognition clinics that serve varied populations with distinct needs are being established all across the United States and abroad. The goal of these clinics is to improve clients’ memory, attention, and other cognitive abilities using principles from cognitive psychology and related fields. For example, a clinic may help school-age children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or other attention disorders; middle-aged veterans who are potentially dealing with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); and the elderly, particularly those experiencing age-related memory loss and attention deficits.

To best serve these populations, virtual cognition clinics are being created to address the needs of individuals who might not otherwise have access. With a combination of creativity and evidenced-based practices, these virtual clinics have the potential to reach a much broader range of patients in need. Imagine that you are part of a team working at a cognition clinic that is either virtual or in-person.

For this project, due in Module Six, you will create a cognition clinic brochure for prospective clients and their families that describes the services your clinic offers to help enhance memory or attention, along with summaries of current research in the field to educate potential clients on the value of those services. As you create your brochure, consider your audience. Write using nonscientific terms, be clear and concise, and include content based on researched best practices. Include in-text citations and a References section, but write in your own words and do not use direct quotations.

In your Project One milestone, which was due in Module Four, you selected the target population for your clinic and its focus on either short-term/working memory, long-term memory, or attention. You also identified primary sources to help you complete this project. Be sure to incorporate any instructor feedback on the analysis of your sources before beginning work on your project.

Scenario 2

As technology evolves, members of the cognitive science community seek to better characterize the potential impacts that technology might have on our cognitive skills. There have been exciting benefits to the advances over the past 20 years, but have these same tools also changed the way we think? Have they changed our capacity to attend and process information? As you have learned in previous courses, such as PSY 222 (Research Methods) and PSY 260 (Statistical Literacy in Psychology), these sparks of curiosity can turn into research questions, and soon a body of work is produced—in this case, one that examines the effects of innovation and technology on the cognition of specific populations. To successfully complete this assignment, you will need to use your data literacy skills and analyze the research for what it is and for what it isn’t.

For this project, due in Module Seven, you will create a technology and cognition blog post with the goal of educating a general audience, as well as healthcare providers, who are educated but not necessarily familiar with your topic of research. Do your best to summarize your sources in your own words with a scientific and formal but not overly technical tone. As such, do not use quotations in your blog, but be sure to use in-text citations and references appropriately. The specialization I have chosen is attentiveness. I selected Attention as a topic of interest, as
many individuals experience attention-related challenges from the many distractions in our
environment. I know the situation is particularly dire for youngsters since they are exposed to
detrimental diversions from a young age. I choose this choice due to my nieces and nephews
being diagnosed with ADHD. I anticipate acquiring novel knowledge that can be beneficial in
assisting them.

received a diagnosis of ADHD. The reason for selecting this cohort is the fact that ADHD affects

children aged 6-11, and 3.3 million adolescents aged 12-17 (CDC, 2021). The diagnosis of
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can have a significant impact on all facets of a

This article examines the studies conducted on an intervention training program called
Pay Attention. The primary objective of this study was to determine if children diagnosed with
ADHD will experience positive outcomes from the program in a clinical setting (Tamm et al.,
2010). The research undertaken during this training would also examine any potential
improvements in executive functioning that may occur over the clinical term. The investigation
was conducted from January to October 2007. Twenty-three school-age children were assessed

The research of sensory integration training in conjunction with EEG feedback on core
symptoms in children with ADHD is discussed in this article (Lena et al. et al., 2023). The
research was conducted from July 2019 to March 2020. A cohort of 52 adolescents diagnosed
with ADHD satisfied the criteria for the study. On average, the participants comprised one year
of age. The students were randomly allocated into numerous groups. The categories comprised a
control group, sensory integration training, EEG feedback, and a combination of sensory training
and EEG feedback. In order to achieve a random sample, an SPSS random number generator was
utilized. Parent-acquired ADHD education for 30 minutes was provided to the control group in
an outpatient setting (Lena et al., 2023). Biofeedback by EEG was administered to the EEG

Both studies provide significant benefits for children diagnosed with ADHD. The initial
study provides an introduction to the intervention program known as Pay Attention. The focus of
this intervention program’s research is the notion of skill development for students. It is effective
because it trains the children’s minds to maintain concentration and pay close Attention. Pay
Attention (Tamm et al., 2010) seeks to cultivate sustained, selective, alternating, and divided
Attention. As this intervention program is designed for individuals who require assistance in
developing their ability to concentrate and pay Attention, it will not address other symptoms
commonly associated with ADHD. The second study examines the effects of a multimodal
intervention on ADHD in adolescents. For comparison, a control group was utilized in this study.
In the initial analysis, no control group was utilized. Sensory integration, EEG biofeedback
therapy, and ADHD education are all components of the multimodal study. The intervention,
which utilized multimodal research, demonstrated efficacy in ameliorating additional symptoms
commonly associated with ADHD in children. One limitation of this multimodal approach is that
there was variation in the documentation of PSQ scores and the severity of symptoms among
children who received varying diagnoses of ADHD (Lena et al. et al., 2023). If not implemented
with individualized plans, this intervention would fail to function effectively.
