Option A
Read these excerpts from three of Churchill’s most famous speeches at the BBC page. What are the themes that recur in these texts? Are they simply inspirational messages or do they convey any of the substantive issues of the conflict? Please let me know if the link needs to be fixed so I can find a replacement. How does the substance of Churchill’s speeches compare to FDR’s Four Freedoms speech? What, if anything, can we learn about British and American society of this era from these documents?
OPTION B
Nazi German policies led to the deaths of 6 million Jews, along with Roma, Homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and others deemed enemies of the state. Please answer the following questions. What beliefs about the Jewish community did Hitler and the Nazis promote? What were the official policies towards Jews at the beginning of the war and how did these change by the end of the war? What were the consequences of the Holocaust – here I am looking for long-term consequences related to international politics, economics, emigration, the Jewish community, and the Nuremberg Trials.

What prompted Japanese expansion? How did Japan move to take China? What was the response from Europe? Discuss the pace of the War in the Pacific. Please be careful with these sources, as they reflect anti-Japanese biases of wartime America. Why do you think countries develop negative caricatures of other countries? How is it used as part of the war effort?
OPTION D
What is fascism? How does it fit into our earlier work on nationalism and imperialism? Try to explain the popularity of fascism in the post-WWI era. Who does fascism target? What are its methods?
