• The Company Analysis Project is meant to be culmination of
all the learnings in the class; to do well on the project and
presentation, it is imperative you draw upon readings,
discussions, and assignments in presenting your analysis. You
will need to do a fair amount of outside research about your
industry and firm and you must properly cite your sources.
• Think of this project and presentation as a case analysis
without a previously written case where you must do the
research on the organization to understand its situation and
then recommend actions to achieve or maintain competitive
advantage.

• The project should answer the question: “What would I
do to gain/maintain competitive advantage if I were in the
driver’s seat of this organization?” Your answer should be
supported by a strategic overview of the organization
within its competitive environment including background
on the industry and firm, how the organization has
changed over time, new & emerging competitors,
industry forces acting on the organization, outlook for the
industry, and major opportunities and threats for the
organization.

• Your position is that of an internal business consultant to
the CEO of a company. You have been hired to do a
strategic analysis of a particular company and the
industry it is in using the outside research materials and
professional tools provided in the text. The goal is to
determine what direction the company should take and
make specific strategy recommendations should what the
company should do next and why. Sometimes you may
determine problem areas and call attention to certain
problems that exist.
Final Project (cont.3)

9
• You should always consider yourself as part of the
company. For example, you should say, “This is what we
should do.” Do not rehash facts about the firm that would
already be well known to managers.
• Your conclusions and recommendations should focus on
professional and documented answers to the question,
‘what next and why?”
