Explanation of score:
Score between +5 and +7: “flaming utilitarian”
Score between +2 and +4: “moderate utilitarian”
Score between -1 and +1: “mugwump”
Score between -4 and -2: “moderate formalist”
Score between -8 and -5: “ice-cold formalist”
FYI, a formalist is a deontologist.
A “mugwump” is person who is independent or aloof from claims that they should
always support one position or viewpoint. Such individuals tend to see strengths and
weaknesses of both sides of an issue and/or they have difficulty making up their minds.
As a result their positions can appear to be inconsistent rather than consistent. This can
be perceived by others to be either a strength to be commended or a weakness to be
condemed. While this term does not merely apply to positions on political issues, it
was first used to describe Republicans who refused to support the GOP presidential
candidate in 1884, resulting in the election of a Democrat as president.
