Description
I have attached my observation of the video in the attachements as well as a screen shot of the eight attributes of a highly effective team covered in Section 8.5 in “OB Chapter 8: Groups and Teams,” from Organizational Behavior and Management With Connect
The purpose of this assignment, based on the Using OB Methods to “Strike” a Deal” Simulation Results assignment you have already completed, is to analyze the team’s methods of communication and their effect on motivation, teamwork, and effective conflict management and resolution.
Write a paper (1,600-1,800 words) in which you address the following:
Upon the completion of the simulation, use any four of the eight attributes of a highly effective team covered in Section 8.5 in “OB Chapter 8: Groups and Teams,” from Organizational Behavior and Management With Connect, located in the Topic 5 Resources, to analyze whether the team in the simulation was effective.
Refer to the textbook readings to review each of the five stages of group formation. Determine what stage(s) were evident in the team’s collective experience (not individually) as you played the simulation and provide a justification of your response.
Describe the importance of effective communication in organizations and evaluate whether your team communication was effective. Justify your answer by describing any barriers to communication that occurred.
Review the two main types of conflicts described in the textbook. Explain how each type of conflict was evident/averted in the team process. What were the benefits and potential problems in the conflict that occurred?
Based on the team’s conflict, which direct conflict management approach(es) did you observe to manage potential or actual conflict? Explain another direct conflict management approach that could have been successfully applied.
Describe how the team could have been motivated using one suggestion identified in the simulation from each of the motivational theories/strategies: content/needs theories, process theories, and reinforcement strategies.
You are required to use the textbook and simulation as your sources.

In the “Serving Up Communication Mishaps” video, Lorenzo, Stacey, and Noah encounter
various communication barriers, shedding light on the complexities of interpersonal
interactions in a workplace setting. Lorenzo’s language difference poses a significant
challenge, as both Stacey and Noah struggle to understand him due to his accent and speed
of speech, highlighting the impact of linguistic diversity on effective communication.
Additionally, the servers’ divided focus impedes communication flow, with Stacey preoccupied
with attending to customers and Noah distracted by his phone, underscoring the importance
of attentiveness and active listening in overcoming communication barriers. These concepts
are most relevant to me, as i have experienced plenty of conversations that are the result of
not understanding or listening.
The organizational and relational aspects of the conversation further complicate
communication dynamics. While the discussion revolves around improving business reviews,
the relational responses of the characters reveal underlying tensions and dismissiveness
towards Lorenzo’s input. Stacey’s casual dismissal of responsibility with “not my bad”
exemplifies a lack of accountability and professionalism, contributing to a strained relational
atmosphere.
Reflecting on the video, face-to-face meetings emerge as a crucial communication tool,
allowing for immediate clarification and addressing of misunderstandings. This format
facilitates open dialogue and fosters a supportive environment where individuals feel
comfortable expressing concerns or seeking clarification. Moreover, the issue of the language
barrier resonates with the broader context of living in a diverse community, emphasizing the
importance of cultural sensitivity and effective communication strategies to avoid
misunderstandings and potential offense.
Overall, the video highlights the multifaceted nature of communication barriers within
organizational contexts and underscores the significance of proactive measures, such as faceto-face meetings and cultural awareness, in fostering effective communication and
maintaining positive interpersonal relationships.
