Discussion Post 1

Welcome to your first graded discussion post! Your post this week will help you to be prepared for writing your academic literature review next week. This week, you will gather the data that you need for your assignment. For your assignment that is due next week, you need to find 12 different articles that you use for your literature review. For this assignment, there are specifications for the articles you will choose:

a) They must be peer-reviewed articles in academic journals.

b) They must be part of your overall topic.

c) These articles should have been published since 2000.

For the discussion post, you will answer the following questions:

1) What is the area you are researching?

2) What articles are you using? List the references in APA 7 format.

3) For your literature review, you should be able to divide the articles you found into sub-topics. For example, for Revenue Management you might be able to divide the articles into willingness-to-pay, forecasting, and upselling or by segment like hotel, restaurant, and airline. What are the 3 subtopics you are going to use for your literature review?

Please note that if your initial post is not posted on time, you will receive a zero on the assignment. You are only required to reply to one post. You reply must be polite and consist of at least 4 sentences. For example, “That looks great!” would not be an acceptable response.

Part-2

Writing an Academic Literature Review

This is the first of three assignments in which you will be writing a literature review. Please continue with the topic from assignment 1. This assignment is to write an academic literature review. This literature review must include at least 12 academic articles published in peer-review journals. I encourage you to use the articles you are reading as models for your own writing. Your literature review must be written in the third person. Contractions are not acceptable in formal writing. No quotations are allowed. Anytime you are referencing the articles, there needs to be an in-text citation. You should essentially have a citation for every sentence.

In text citation one author: Last Name, Year

In text citation two authors: Last Name & Last Name, Year

In text citation for three or more authors: Last Name, et al., Year

All of the writing must be in your own words. Papers with plagiarism issues will receive a zero and the student will be reported for an academic integrity violation up to and including expulsion.

Excluding references, the paper should be between 7-9 pages.

Introduction

The introduction should be 2 paragraphs. The first paragraph should introduce the subject that is being discussed with a definition with an in-text citation. This paragraph should then discuss the importance of the topic with in-text citations. Finally, the research question should be stated which should be some variation of: What is the trajectory of research in _______________ area?

The second paragraph should explain how the articles were found. This should include a list of key words used in the search, a discussion of the search engines used, and a brief description of what criteria you used for deciding on inclusion in the paper.

Body (This should be titled Literature Review in your paper)

This will the summary of the articles you have found. Unlike your annotated bibliography, you will not be organizing by article but instead by topic. You should have 3-4 subtopics. These topics should be labelled at the top of the paragraph and in italics. You should have a minimum of 3 articles under each subheading. Similar to the type of literature review you find in the very articles you are reading, you will be briefly summarizing the main findings of these articles with connector sentences. This needs to be written using correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Conclusion

The conclusion should be three paragraphs. Paragraph 1: Give a summary of the information you found, using references. This should discuss the topics covered and the main findings. This is a high-level overview and should not be longer than 250 words. Paragraph 2: Discuss the types of quantitative methods used. Discuss what was used and how it may have been similar or different depending on the subtopic. Paragraph 3: Discuss something that you expected to find in the literature but did not find. This should be a current trend in the industry. Use a non-academic article, like something from a news channel or trade publication, as a reference. An example may be “Inflation in 2022 increased the price of all consumer goods (Author, Year), however none of the articles found addressed how hotels are making pricing changes related to inflation.” Then, expand on why this would be important based on the non-academic article.

References

References should be in APA 7 style. They should be at the end of the paper. Unlike the annotated bibliography, your references should be separate from the body of the paper. All of the references in the list should be cited in the text, and all the references cited in the text should be in the list. There is a minimum of 13 references that should be used. Please note that while no points will be awarded for correct formatting, points will be deducted for incorrect formatting.

All assignments in this class should be written in the third person. Do not express your opinions or offer information that is unsupported by research.

Homework Assignment 2 should be in 12 point, times new roman, double spaced. Your name must be on the top of the assignment. The assignment must be turned in on Microsoft Word. Other formats will not be accepted.

No late assignments are accepted. Late assignments will receive a grade of a zero.
