Assignment Motivation + higher-level needs
Several of the content-based theories of motivation identify “higher-level” needs. These can be
summarized into the five categories below.
o Love/affiliation/relatedness
o Esteem/competence
o Self-actualization/achievement
o Power
o Autonomy
For each of the needs categories, please identify what you could provide or do as a manager to
satisfy them. For example, you could plan a team outing to satisfy a high need for relatedness.
