Introduction [200 to 350 words]

Your research proposal should start with an overview of your chosen topic and a justification as to why you have chosen this topic. Your justification should focus on why your topic is original and significant.

Overview of Existing Literature [400 to 800 words]

In this section, you should identify two or three relevant areas of literature (and the main arguments/approaches that each of them offers) and show how your own research relates to these chosen areas of the literature. After briefly summarising these main areas of the literature you plan to explore, you should clearly identify a research gap, and explain how your proposed project would fill this gap. This section should include your main research question.

Research Method(s) [150 to 200 words]

You need to state which of the five research methodsdiscussed in class (interviews, focus groups, survey research, quantitative content analysis or qualitative analysis of texts) you have chosen for your project. You should also define the chose method(s) clearly (for example, by using some of the academic literature you have been presented with in class), and explain how your chosen method(s) will help you answer your research question.

Journal Selection [150 to 250 words]

Next, you should name the academic journal you have decided to write for and justify why you think your article falls into the aims and scope of that journal. In this section, you must include what is the maximum/minimum allowed wordcount for your chosen journal article. This range cannot be above 7,000 words or above 9,000 words.

mySkills Reflection [250 to 400 words]

The final section of your research proposal should include areflection (that is, a personal statement) on three of the skills listed in the mySkills self-assessment you completed on week 2. Your reflection should include a reflection 1) on one skill you scored highly on in the audit, 2) one skill that you feel you need to work on during semester 2, and 3) one skill that you feel will be useful to have in your future career.

References [not included in the wordcount]

A list of references to all the sources of information cited in the research proposal. This list should be in alphabetical order and should follow the Harvard style. For guidance on how to use the correct referencing style, take the online tutorials available here.
