According to this week’s interactive media, there are 22 different global ethics principles that have been identified. I chose three ethical principles from the activity that would most benefit the area of study my group is focusing on. I chose: strengthen social equity, impartiality, and equality. I chose these three in particular due to the nature of the term and the focus toward equity across the board. I chose strengthen social equity because that is how we will engage in real social change toward transgender access to healthcare. I would want to see impartiality as well because all involved need to be open to possibilities instead of partial to one way of thinking or practice. Lastly, I chose equality because transgender people need equitable access to healthcare, among other things like their cisgender counterparts. Equality leads to equity, which ultimately leads to impartiality. 2. According to Johnson (2019), ‘Merriam Webster Dictionary defines ethics as the discipline dealing with what is good and what is bad’. It also personifies accountability, integrity, honesty and empathy. They are the tenets of many mission statements for organizations, corporations and government entities. Of the 22 ethical principles, I chose 4 principles, (Demonstrate Personal Integrity, Uphold the Constitution and Law, Strengthen Social Equity and Reliability) that I would include in the development of a global ethics code. As a budding public administration scholar and an active public servant, demonstrating personal integrity is important in gaining the trust and confidence of the public as a leader. The cornerstone of the country, the law of the land is the U.S. Constitution. As a public servant, I took an oath to uphold and defend it against all enemies foreign and domestic. Not only am I upholding the Constitution but as a public administrator my work will be to establish and improve policies that benefit the public or community. My work in strengthening social equity to reduce unfairness, injustice and inequality within society would also be beneficial in a global ethics code. (American Society for Public Administration [ASPA], 2021) Finally, being reliable is also important because the public or people in general need reassurance that leaders will follow through with promises made to the public regarding navigating various national and local crises and having the assurance that leaders are responsible and committed to doing the job effectively.
