Introduce to literature

Description

The Old Man in the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter gradually became very rich and he had aspirations of upward mobility. If the Old Man were to move to the capital Heian-kyō (Kyoto), where would he have wanted to live and why? Do you think you would have the same aspirations? What is the most appealing part of the city to you? Explain why. Your response should take into account how court rank affected where one lived in Heian-kyō. Support your arguments with specific examples from the reading by Stavros, “Heian-kyō: The Ideal.”
