Strategies
Today, firms must effectively use technology to be competitive in the fast-paced corporate world. The
Management Information System (MIS) is a crucial component that plays a significant role in
integrating technology by facilitating decision-making, optimizing resources, and enhancing overall
organizational efficiency.
Hyundai’s success in the automotive sector is not only due to its unique car designs and production
capabilities but also to its smart and well-executed information management strategy. The company’s
strategic incorporation of Management Information Systems is a crucial factor that requires thorough
analysis. In the subsequent section, we analyze Hyundai’s Management Information Systems strategies
to understand the advanced technology used to improve operations, and decision-making, and traverse
the challenges of the global automotive industry.
First and foremost, Hyundai uses the real-time monitoring and reporting tool Materialise e-stage which
enables them to produce prototypes and manage production more efficiently (Materialise, n.d.). This
allows the company to identify issues and take corrective measures when necessary. Additionally, the
program minimizes the need for manual input of production data and the creation of support structures,
resulting in significant time savings. Materialise e-Stage’s efficient and optimized support production
resulted in reduced material usage, improved component quality, and quicker support removal
(Materialise, n.d.). This allows Hyundai to dedicate more effort to enhancing the value we provide to
our consumers.
Secondly, Hyundai has strategically incorporated cloud technology into its operations by utilizing AWS
as its primary cloud provider, as part of its digital transformation efforts (Lynn, 2023). This partnership
goes beyond only transferring infrastructure, including full use of AWS features, ranging from
computing and storage to advanced technologies such as generative AI and IoT. Hyundai is positioning
itself as a data-driven corporation with a cloud-first approach to improve manufacturing, boost security,
and drive innovation in connected vehicles. The company’s dedication to artificial intelligence is shown
in the creation of models that can identify hydraulic component problems, demonstrating its focus on
predictive maintenance (Kurniawan, 2021). This transformation journey is completed by a
collaborative training program with AWS, empowering Hyundai Engineers with essential cloud skills.
(Lynn, 2023). Through this strategy, Hyundai stands at the forefront of technological innovations by
merging cloud technology with artificial intelligence to reshape the future of automotive excellence.
Moreover, Hyundai is integrating Management information systems with other business systems.
Hyundai has adopted the SAP/R/3 a leading enterprise resource planning system to integrate its
management information system with finance, logistics and human resource functions (“SK Hynix”,
2000). By so doing, the organization streamlined its business operations, reduced manual duties, and
eliminated mistakes caused by inconsistent data. Hyundai saw enhancements in accuracy, speed, and
compliance in its accounting, buying, and inventory management procedures. The ERP system
facilitated improved coordination across various departments, leading to quicker product releases and
more prompt responses to shifts in demand (“SAP”, n.d).
Conclusively, Hyundai’s strategic use of Management Information Systems (MIS) is demonstrated by
the adoption of modern technologies such as Materialise e-Stage for real-time monitoring, which
enables efficient manufacturing processes and issue detection.
