Assignment DetailsHIST-1110-M50 World History to 1500 Spring Term 2024With this in mind, consider the following questions. You will need to look over Kevin Reilly’s Worlds of History: A Comparative Reader to 1550 (chapter 1, pp. 6-11; 11-14;14-20). This textbook includes primary sources and articles written by historians on primary sources.Discussion questions to think about:
Examine the different pieces of Paleolithic and Neolithic art. How do they compare to each other? Is there a discernible difference between the Paleolithic and Neolithic samples? What, if anything, can comparing these different works of art tell us about their respective societies?
Is it a problem to use studies of modern-day hunter-gatherer societies to try and understand the practices and beliefs of prehistorical people? What is gained and what is lost by this approach?
Do you find Margaret Ehrenberg’s (Reilly, pp. 14-20) conclusions about the impact of the agricultural revolution on women’s status convincing? Why or why not? Did the “invention” of agriculture ultimately benefit or harm human society?
What is the difference between “history” and
“prehistory”? Can scholars actually study the history of prehistorical societies?
