Grignard reagent is the result of when a solution of alkyl (alkane missing a H) or aryl halide in dry
diethyl ether is mixed with metallic magnesium, forming a vigorous rection that turns cloudy
generating an exothermic reaction causing it to boil and making the magnesium gradually
disappear, and is one of the most useful and versatile synthetic reagents including alkenes,
carboxylic acids, secondary alcohols, tertiary alcohols and organometallic compounds.
