DISCUSSION POST: Thread that is between 300 and 350 words addressing a specific topic. Threads must demonstrate course-related knowledge and be supported by references (APA 7th Edition) to the course literature.

DISCUSSION POST 1: Types of Groups

Several different types of groups are described in this module’s readings. Describe a group that you might like to lead, including the type of group, its size, inclusion criteria, and whether it is open or closed. Identify the group’s purpose. What topics will be covered; how often will the group meet and for how long? In your replies, offer your peers helpful recommendations on how to make their proposed groups even more effective and beneficial for the members. What leadership styles and skills demonstrated in the course-embedded videos will be appropriate?

DISCUSSION POST 2: Group Development

In this module, you will read and hear about stages of group development and factors that contribute to group cohesion. Discuss a few aspects of the beginning and transition (storming/norming) stages of a group that—based on the readings, videos, and your experience—are most critical for the group leader to attend to and to address in order for the group to reach the working stage.

DISCUSSION POST 3: Group Leadership Skills

Through the course materials, you have learned about how to effectively lead a group session. Which of the different skills described and demonstrated by Jacobs et al. and Corey et al. do you feel would be the easiest and the hardest, respectively, for you to incorporate into your own group leadership and why?

DISCUSSION POST 4: Group Exercises

Rounds and dyads are excellent techniques for support and counseling groups, and they may also be effectively used in other types of groups. Describe one specific example of a round and one specific example of a dyad exercise that you could implement in a meeting with a task group, project group, or team to enhance the motivation, decision-making process, performance, and/or productivity of the group.

DISCUSSION POST 5: Group Issues and Conflict

In chapter 16, Jacobs et al. address problem situations that may cause conflict in a group and get it off track. Choose one of these and shed further light on why this is a common issue and why/how it may lead to conflict by drawing upon Forsyth, chapter 13 and Corey et al., second program.
