NASM Essentials of Corrective Exercise Training
The Rationale for Corrective Exercises
Chapter 1 Lab Activity
Task Outline
Corrective exercise should be the foundation for all persons participating in sporting activities, or
any activity at work or home that is repetitive and has the potential for injury. Injuries to the foot
and ankle, knee, hip and low back, shoulders and upper extremities are common in organized
sports and recreational activities. Note too, that individuals involved in different work settings
are also predisposed to injuries equal to if not more frequent than the traditional athlete.
In Chapter 1, you will learn the rationale for implementing these kinds of exercises. This
first task will give you an opportunity to discuss your experience regarding injuries to the
different body parts listed in the chapter.
